Casio's new Mudman with MIP display, step counter, tactical backlight leaks again ahead of launch

The estimated price of Casio's unannounced Mudman has gone up. Casioblog (the Russian enthusiast site that first surfaced the GDG-B100 in May) published fresh renders on 3 September and now puts the watch at $250 to $270, against the $200 to $250 it estimated four months ago. It also gives us a tentative release date; Casio should reveal the watch by October.

The renders show a caseback, and that answers a question the earlier leak didn't address. It has no solar marking, and Casioblog says it found no sign of Tough Solar on the dial either, so the new Mudman watches will likely get a two-year battery instead. The same image shows a Carbon Core Guard case, a stainless steel back, module 3587, Thailand assembly, and text reading acceleration Sensor — this means a step counter will be present, and not the compass or thermometer a Master of G watch might otherwise carry.

Casioblog says that the module as close to the GBD-200 and GBD-300, which would imply Bluetooth, a pedometer, training modes with distance, pace and calorie tracking, a 100-hour stopwatch, interval timer, vibration alarm, phone notifications and Life Log syncing to the Casio Watches app. That is basically a G-Squad feature set inside Mudman lines. Casio has kept these two series apart until now.

Three colorways are on their way: the black GDG-B100-1, the GDG-B100-1A3 on a dark green strap, and the GDG-B100-1A5 on sand. The strap texture is new — it is built from lines folded inside a trapezoid pattern that repeats around the display, and a knurled button is present below the dial for the backlight.

That backlight is another neat detail. On the sand version Casioblog's render shows it glowing bright red, which the site guesses comes from a polarizing film while explicitly not stating it as a fact.

Casio has said nothing about any of this.
