Deal | Ubisoft AAA action game now free for everyone

Ubisoft is marking its 40th anniversary by giving away For Honor - Standard Edition free on Ubisoft Connect, an offer that runs until September 28, 2026, after which those who claimed the game keep it permanently. The offer reduces the regular $30 asking price to zero, although it is limited to PC only.

Originally released in 2017, For Honor is a third-person action fighting game built around melee combat. Players can choose warriors from five factions: Knights, Vikings, Samurai, Wu Lin and Outlanders. The Standard Edition includes the base game and 14 characters, while its multiplayer formats include one-on-one, two-on-two, and four-on-four battles. A single-player campaign is also included, although the game requires an online connection.

Nearly a decade after launch, For Honor still draws a peak of around 8,000 concurrent players, suggesting a modest but persistent community. However, some players argue the free giveaway conveniently follows Ubisoft's removal of the title from Steam Deck and Linux, a change made to curb cheating but which locked out non-cheating users on those platforms.

Reception of the game, both at launch and among current players, remains divided: the game is admired for its tense, weighty combat and striking environments, but faulted for its online-only requirement and steep learning curve, so much so that the developers themselves suggest that newcomers watch tutorial videos before playing.
