This Timex Red Vega 1978 reissue with stunning red dial restocked in markets outside the US
Timex's reissue of the Q Timex watch from Pulp Fiction is back in stock in Europe. The Q Timex Red Vega 1978 Reissue, reference TW2Y55700, is available to order again on Timex EU for €209. The listing now also carries a "New" badge, though you should know that the watch itself isn't new. Timex first released it back in February this year.
The original is a 1978 Q Timex, which Timex has catalogued as the "Red Nebula." It picked up a cult following after John Travolta's character, Vincent Vega, wore one in the 1994 film. That's where the reissue gets its name from, too. The watch didn't get much of the spotlight in the film, though. Most of that went to the gold watch in Christopher Walken's famous monologue.
The reissue gets a red marbleized dial that made the original popular. It sits under a domed acrylic crystal with faceted interior surfaces, which catch and refract light. There's a day-date window at 3 o'clock, and the hands and markers are luminous as well. The stainless-steel case is 38 mm wide, 44 mm lug-to-lug and 11 mm thick, with a brushed and polished finish. Timex went with a black leather strap with a crocodile texture rather than a bracelet. It's powered by a quartz movement, and is rated for 50 m of water resistance.
It isn't a one-to-one copy, however. Worn & Wound points out that the metallic finish on the inside of the crystal is a little more prominent than it was on the 1978 original.
The restock is limited to Europe for now. In the US, the Red Vega launched at $209 in February. Timex US now lists it at $219, but it is still out of stock there. On Timex EU, the price hasn't changed from €209, and orders over €150 ship for free.
