Timex 1990 Moon Phase reissue: First hands-on shots showcase compact, warmer dial, 3-crown design
The 1990 Moon Phase and Calendar Dial Reissue has reached buyers, and the first owner photographs show a watch that looks differently from Timex's renders.
An owner posted wrist and unboxing shots to the Timex subreddit two days ago, getting 335 upvotes. Three things stand out primarily. The three crowns sit closer together on the right flank than the press images suggest. The ring knobs are located at roughly two and four o'clock, crowding the main crown at three. The applied markers on the rail track catch light in a way the flat renders lose. And the date window at six is wide enough to show the neighboring dates either side of the current one. For this reason, the aperture looks as three numbers and not one.
Timex UK's specification table gives the dial as white, while Timex EU, Watches of Switzerland and Australian dealers all say cream. In warm indoor light the dial photographs make it look actually warm; on a white cloth it looks closer to off-white. Neither image settles it, since camera white balance decides the answer, but the cream description looks to be the safer one.
Since the UK and EU listings went up, more of the specification has surfaced. The movement is caliber 14F, made in Thailand. US pricing is $299, against 250 pounds in Britain and 289 euros in Europe. Remove the 20% VAT from the British figure and it comes to about $282 at today's rate, so the American price sits around 6% higher before sales tax, which is a much narrower gap than Timex usually has between the two markets.
The moon phase itself is also not new to the current catalog. The same complication appeared on the Timex x Noah collaborations of 2024 and 2025, which is where most buyers will have seen it before.
