Timex officially lists 1990 Moon Phase and Calendar Dial Reissue with compact 3-crown case

Timex has put the 1990 Moon Phase and Calendar Dial Reissue on its UK and European stores at £250/€289, and it arrives with three crowns rather than one.

That is the entire point of the watch. The reference TW2Y99000 features two rotating rings around the outside of the dial, one for the day of the week and one for the date, each driven by a knob flanking the main crown. Align the 1 with the first day of the month and the rings display the month at a glance. However, neither adjusts itself, so the arrangement has to be reset by hand at the start of every month.

The moon phase works the same way. A 28-day sub-dial is present just above the central hub, set manually to match the sky. A separate date window at six o'clock is handled by pulling the main crown out one stop.

The case is 37 mm of polished gold-tone stainless steel with a tiered bezel, 42.5 mm lug to lug and 10 mm tall, weighing 44.89 g. Timex fits a mineral crystal and rates it to 50 m. The dial carries full Arabic numerals separated from the calendar rings by a printed rail track. The watch also has an applied metallic marker at each hour, and Sundays are picked out in red on the day ring.

The strap is dark brown crocodile-grain leather, 18 mm. It is sourced via the Leather Working Group and mounted on quick-release spring bars. Power is a quartz movement running on an SR920SW cell.

Please note that it is not a new watch everywhere. Australian dealers have had the same reference at AU$549.95 for some time, with several now selling it closer to AU$440; Timex India (via Amazon) also lists it as the TW2Y99000UJ at ₹28,995.
