Timex’s Marlin Jet Chronograph brings a TAG Heuer Glassbox-inspired look for under $310
Timex is expanding its Marlin Jet line with two 1960s-inspired chronographs featuring domed Hesalite crystals, bicompax dials, and reliable meca-quartz movements. Priced at $279 and $309, the new models deliver a compelling TAG Heuer Glassbox-style aesthetic at a more accessible price.

When Timex dropped the original Marlin Jet back in February 2024, it became an instant smash hit. The watch took the company’s vintage-inspired Marlin dress line and injected it with a healthy dose of 1960s space-age aesthetic, defined by a domed Hesalite crystal. Now, Timex is rolling out a natural evolution of that aesthetic with a pair of new Marlin Jet Chronographs with a meca-quartz movement.

Timex is offering two options, with the reference TW2Y89800 featuring an earthy sage-green dial, contrasting white counters, and a brushed-and-polished multi-link steel bracelet. It’s priced at $309 / £280 and is available for purchase directly from Timex’s website starting today. Meanwhile, the TW2Y89900 trades the bracelet for a navy recycled fabric strap, paired with a crisp silver-white dial with deep navy sub-dials. This one is slightly cheaper at $279 / £250 and is open for pre-order now. There’s no word on when it will go on sale in the US, though it's already available in the UK

At the heart of these new chronographs is the signature domed Hesalite crystal. Rather than stopping at the steel bezel, the scratch-resistant acrylic dome sweeps entirely over the brushed 40mm case and seamlessly encases an angled inner tachymeter scale. This dramatically distorts and magnifies the concave dial when viewed from the side, producing a captivating optical depth while leaving only the lugs exposed.

Flanked by vintage pump pushers and a grooved crown bearing a retro “Jet” insignia, the bicompax layout features recessed sub-dials at 9 and 3 o’clock, sleek applied indices, and a date window sitting neatly above 6 o’clock.

Both watches are powered by a hybrid meca-quartz movement—the earlier Marlin Jet models like the TW2Y24600 already proved the viability of this hybrid approach. The meca-quartz movement pairs the quartz reliability with the smooth, mechanical sweep of a traditional chronograph hand. Like the prior models, the new lineup retains the distinctive “Glassbox” aesthetic rivaling luxury timepieces like the TAG Heuer Carrera.
