Timex’s new Atelier GMT Première M1a with a Swiss movement now available in more markets
After debuting in the US earlier this month, the new Timex Atelier GMT Première M1a is officially rolling out globally. The compact 38mm GMT with a Swiss automatic movement is now available for purchase in Canada, India, Australia, Hong Kong, the UK, and various other European countries directly from Timex's online store and authorized retailers.
Timex introduced the Atelier sub-brand last year as its most ambitious move into premium mechanical watches. The Marine M1a kicked things off and was an instant hit, with its first batch selling out shortly after launch. The company followed the inaugural success with the Atelier GMT24 M1a, a 40mm travel watch powered by a Swiss-made automatic GMT movement.
The new GMT Première M1a that launched this month is a refinement of the Atelier GMT24 M1a formula rather than a complete redesign. The headline upgrade is the case size, which drops from 40mm to a more wearable 38mm diameter and should appeal to a broader range of wrists.
The watch keeps the same architectural case design, complete with a skeletonized stainless steel construction that exposes an IP gold-plated middle case and a matching gold screw-down crown.
However, there are a few visual tweaks to the dial. Most notably, the 24-hour inner bezel gets a new black-and-green look that separates day and night, while the orange GMT hand has been replaced by an arrowhead GMT hand. Finally, the lollipop seconds hand on the earlier model makes room for a new slender, gold-accented needle hand.
The glossy black enamel dial features gold-toned hands and applied indices and is protected by a double-curved sapphire crystal with a triple-layer anti-reflective coating.
Under the hood, the Atelier Première is powered by a Swiss-made Landeron 24 automatic GMT movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour across 28 jewels. It delivers a 40-hour power reserve and +10/-15 second daily accuracy, while an exhibition case back lets you check out the movement in action.

Like its predecessor, the new Atelier GMT Première M1a is offered on either a stainless steel bracelet or an integrated NBR rubber strap.
