ETA Prime has tested another powerful Mini PC. This time around, the YouTuber has put the MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU and 128 GB of RAM through a series of synthetic and gaming tests to see the true potential of MSI's 4-litre compact computer.

We are sort of in the golden age of Mini PCs. From reasonably powerful Mini PCs for school or office work to powerhouse systems for gaming and running AI workloads, there are abundant options at all price points. If you are in the latter camp, MSI offers the Pro Max Edge AI+ with the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU and up to 128 GB of RAM.

ETA Prime has now tested the MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ in both synthetic benchmarks and some AAA games to see what kind of performance the Mini PC can deliver. Unsurprisingly, the MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ proves to be a beastly performer.

In Cinebench 2024, the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 inside the MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ managed single-core performance on par with the Apple M1. The 16-core/32-thread AMD APU is much faster in multi-core, where ETA Prime’s testing shows a 16% performance advantage over the Apple M1 Ultra.

For the iGPU, ETA Prime’s 3DMark Time Spy Graphics benchmark run yielded a score of 11,958, making the Radeon 8060S inside the Max Pro Edge AI+ 3% faster than the fastest sample in our database.

MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ gaming performance

The MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ can handle AAA games without any issues, provided that you are comfortable using image upscaling when pushing demanding games at 1440p. For instance, the Mini PC can play Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p/ultra with an average of 67 FPS using FSR 4 “Quality”. Lighter titles like Forza Horizon 6 don’t require FSR to hit 60+ FPS at 1440p.

Super demanding titles like Crimson Desert will need you to enable FSR Frame Generation or drop the resolution/settings down to achieve a smooth framerate. The MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ can reportedly run Crimson Desert at an 88 FPS average at 1440p/ultra with FSR Frame Gen.

Unfortunately, for all of its gaming chops, the MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ doesn’t make sense as a purely gaming system. The 4-litre Mini PC is currently an eye-watering $5,499 on MSI’s official store. This much money can easily get you an RTX 5080 gaming PC and a high-refresh-rate OLED gaming monitor on Amazon while saving a big chunk of cash.
