HP silently launches cheaper Intel Wildcat OmniDesk mini PC with UFS storage

HP recently launched the OmniDesk mini PC with Intel Wildcat Lake, and it now has a more affordable base configuration. At launch, the starting option came with a 256GB SSD, and the newly introduced option, on the other hand, features 128GB UFS internal storage.

Interestingly, this configuration with slower storage swaps the LPDDR5X RAM with DDR5 memory. However, the memory doesn't seem to be upgradeable, as HP states the term "onboard" on promotional materials, which is a bummer.

The company doesn't specify the UFS standard for the internal storage, but the spec sheet does mention that the mini PC has 8GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5,600MT/s. On the bright side, users can upgrade the storage by installing an NVMe SSD on the M.2 SSD if required.

As for the other specs, they remain the same as in the configuration that comes with a 256GB SSD. That includes the Intel Core 3 304 being the CPU, which is an entry-level option within the Intel Wildcat Lake series. The chassis remains the same as well, and while this mini PC has a compact form factor, it comes with a decent port configuration, including:

• 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
• 1x HDMI 2.0b
• 1x LAN
• 1x 3.5mm audio

For wireless connectivity, there's WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. As for the price, the 128GB UFS variant of the Wildcat Lake OmniDesk Mini is currently available on Best Buy for $499.99, but that's a discounted price tag. The regular retail price is $589.99, which is still a bit more affordable than the 256GB SSD variant that goes for $799.99.
