Deal | Steam: 91% positive cyberpunk RPG is now under $2

Long before Cyberpunk 2077 put Night City in the spotlight, Deus Ex: Human Revolution was already taking players into a dystopian future filled with body augmentations, powerful corporations and social tensions. What made the game stand out, however, wasn't just its setting but above all the enormous amount of freedom it gave players.

Adam Jensen works as security chief for biotechnology company Sarif Industries when an attack fundamentally changes his life. Severely injured, he survives only thanks to extensive mechanical augmentations. While searching for those responsible, he becomes increasingly entangled in an international conspiracy and a society that is growing more divided over transhumanism and the consequences of modifying the human body.

The options available throughout the game depend heavily on Jensen's augmentations. These include retractable blades in his forearms, enhanced strength, more powerful hacking abilities and other implants that can significantly change his approach. Depending on the upgrades chosen, players can bypass enemies, manipulate security systems or tackle problems far more aggressively.

The Director's Cut also addresses one of the biggest criticisms of the original. The boss fights were reworked to give stealth and hacking builds significantly more options instead of almost forcing players to rely on raw firepower. On top of that, The Missing Link, Tong's Mission and other additional content originally released separately are included as well.

German gaming website GamePro reviewed Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director's Cut when it launched in October 2013 and particularly praised the high degree of player freedom, the augmentation system, the compelling conspiracy story and the reworked boss fights. Criticism focused on the technology, which already looked dated at the time, stiff character animations and balancing that favors stealth over open firefights. Nevertheless, the game still earned a strong 9 out of 10 points.

Players have reached a similarly positive verdict: 91% of nearly 30,000 Steam reviews recommend the RPG. Metacritic lists a Metascore of 88 and a user score of 8.6.

On Steam, Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director's Cut normally costs around $20 but is 90% off until October 1 and available for $1.99. According to SteamDB, this matches the game's lowest-ever price, which was most recently reached during the Summer Sale. On the Steam Deck, the cyberpunk RPG is rated as “Playable.”
