Nintendo makes this 2024 hit free for Switch Online members

Nintendo Switch Online members can download and play the full version of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at no extra cost for the next week. Nintendo says the Game Trial opened at 10 a.m. PT on September 24 and will close at 11:59 p.m. PT on September 30.

The offer covers the complete game rather than a timed demo or an opening chapter. Any active Nintendo Switch Online membership qualifies. Players who buy the game during or after the trial keep all of their save data, while access ends for everyone else once the window closes.

Nintendo has paired the trial with a 70% discount on the digital edition through the Nintendo eShop and Nintendo Store. The sale runs until 11:59 p.m. PT on October 7, a week after the free period ends. Members can also earn 100 My Nintendo Platinum Points by completing a mission linked to the trial. Nintendo has not published a full list of participating regions, so availability depends on the local eShop.

Ubisoft Montpellier developed The Lost Crown, which launched on January 18, 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Android and iOS versions followed in April 2025. The 2.5D side-scroller moved the series back to its two-dimensional roots and leaned heavily on Metroidvania design, with an interconnected map that opens up as the player gains new abilities.

Players control Sargon, the youngest member of an elite band of Persian warriors known as the Immortals, as he fights through a cursed and time-corrupted Mount Qaf. Sargon unlocks Time Powers as the story progresses, and the combat system folds those abilities into acrobatic sword combos.

The Lost Crown holds an 8.7 out of 10 score on OpenCritic. Reviewers praised its map design, combat, and accessibility options, though several criticized its narrative. The Switch version runs at 60 fps in both docked and handheld modes.

The game attracted more than three million players but missed Ubisoft's sales expectations, and the publisher later disbanded the team behind it. Ubisoft supported the release with free content updates and a paid story expansion in September 2024.

Game Trials form one part of the Nintendo Switch Online package, which also includes online multiplayer, cloud backups for save data and libraries of classic NES, Super NES and Game Boy titles. Nintendo offers eligible Switch owners without a membership a free seven-day Nintendo Switch Online trial.
