Ubisoft brings Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon to the Nintendo Switch 2

Ubisoft is officially bringing its beloved open-world shooter franchise to Nintendo's next-generation hardware. The publisher recently announced that both Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and the retro-futuristic Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027.

According to an official post by Ubisoft, the dual release will deliver the full, uncompromised experiences that made both titles standout hits. Far Cry 3 is widely regarded as a landmark release that defined the modern open-world shooter formula. Players step into the shoes of Jason Brody, a stranded tourist fighting for survival on the lawless, tropical Rook Islands. The game blends first-person combat, stealth, wildlife hunting, and crafting while pitting players against the iconic, unpredictable antagonist Vaas Montenegro.

Accompanying the primary game is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, a fan-favorite standalone expansion that trades tropical jungles for a neon-soaked, 1980s sci-fi dystopia. In this parody of action cinema, players control Sergeant Rex "Power" Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando operating on an Earth ravaged by nuclear war. Driven by vengeance and a heavy dose of action movie clichés, players must navigate a vibrant world filled with cyborg enemies and laser-shooting mutant lizards.

While Ubisoft has not yet detailed specific technical enhancements tailored for Nintendo's new console, Ubisoft News noted that both games received a free 60 FPS update earlier this year for PlayStation and Xbox. Given the Switch 2's robust processing capabilities, we can expect these Spring 2027 ports to maintain a fluid 60 fps whether docked or played in handheld mode.

The announcement signals Ubisoft's strong, continued third-party support for Nintendo's upcoming platform. By successfully porting these demanding older titles to the Switch 2, it opens the door for later, more resource-intensive entries in the franchise, like Far Cry 4 or Far Cry 5, to eventually make the jump as well.
