Scalpers are preying on Metroid Ravenous Special Edition pre-orders. Debuting at the Nintendo Direct, the collectible bundle includes the physical Switch 2 game, SteelBook, and an exclusive amiibo. Shoppers desperate to purchase this version may need to pay more than $300 on eBay.

The latest Nintendo Direct proved worth watching for Metroidvania fans. One highlight was the Metroid Dread sequel, with MercurySteam’s new Switch 2 game launching on January 28th. Metroid Ravenous pre-orders also opened ahead of the release date, but the $120 Special Edition sold out almost instantly.

The eBay premium

As with the Zelda 40th Anniversary console and Pro Controller, scalpers are the culprits. eBay listings for the Metroid Ravenous Special Edition are already live, and sales are closing in the $250-325 range.

Following the Nintendo Direct, the somewhat pricey option immediately appealed to collectors. Buyers will receive a physical copy of the Switch 2 game in unique packaging. Players hope the first-party published title decided against a Game-Key Card, but that information isn’t confirmed. In addition, players can expect a blue SteelBook case with artwork inspired by the Metroidvania project.

Finally, this Metroid Ravenous pre-order configuration includes a Samus amiibo. The Nintendo Store explains that gamers can tap the figure to unlock in-game items. The Samus model is exclusive to the Special Edition. However, two other separately available amiibo should ship by the release date.

Other versions are in-stock

The $120 version of the Switch 2 title that targets collectors is scarce. Thanks in part to scalpers, players may have to settle for the $59.99 Digital alternative sold at the eShop. Physical supporters can choose the $69.99 boxed copy at Amazon, Best Buy, and various other retailers.

Buyers could see the Metroid Ravenous Special Edition pre-order restocked before launch. That may partly depend on the popularity of the MercurySteam title. Early indications suggest fans are eager to continue the saga of Samus.

Gameplay changes have intrigued followers of the franchise. In a key shift from Dread, the protagonist sucks energy from enemies she eliminates. Visually, although the graphics are 2D or 2.5D, the developers have again blended in 3D environments. The action should also seem more fluid when an optional 120 Hz mode is active on the console.
