The most recent Nintendo Direct saw Nintendo throw in a surprising number of Amiibo lineup additions that also pushed the envelope in both size and price against historic norms.

Nintendo unveiled a bold new wave of Amiibo figures, which are pricier and larger in size, during the company’s longest-ever Nintendo Direct presentation on Friday, September 12, 2025. The marathon broadcast ran for one hour and showcased 40 upcoming titles for Mario’s 40th anniversary.

Nintendo also announced updates on previously revealed projects like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby Air Riders, and re-releases of Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, along with tie-in Amiibo releases.

The new Amiibos push themselves into the premium category as pricing starts higher than the typical $20 to $30 range seen previously in the US, where the figures debuted a decade ago for $15 a pop.

Leading the charge are the Kirby Air Riders Amiibo, which are $50 each, making them one of the most expensive Amiibos in Nintendo’s lineup. There are dual-pack sets, one featuring Kirby on top of a Warp Star and another with Bandana Waddle Dee on a Winged Star machine, each allowing interchangeable riders and machines that snap together.

This also extends to the Kirby Air Riders game, which is set to release on November 20, 2025, where players can scan customized combinations to generate a custom Ride and Air Ride Machine in-game. These figures can then be trained as Figure Players, earning experience levels through repeated use. Pre-orders for these sets are already live, with both Amiibos pushing the total cost to $100.

Not far behind in pricing are the new Super Mario Galaxy Amiibos, each retailing for $40. Nintendo has described them as “larger than the standard size” to justify the cost. The lineup includes Mario soaring through space with his starry companion. Alongside are Rosalina and Lumas. These Amiibos are expected to measure at least 13.6 cm tall, comparable to the XL-sized Detective Pikachu Nintendo released years ago.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 2, 2025. Using the Mario and Luma Amiibos by tapping them grants players a Life Mushroom for extra health points, while the Rosalina and Lumas Amiibo gives players a 1-Up Mushroom.

Rounding out the new Amiibo lineup are three Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Amiibo figures priced between $30 and $40, with the Samus and Vi-O-La figure taking center stage. The other two Amiibos feature a standard Samus and Sylux, both priced at $30 each.

Nintendo hasn’t revealed any specific in-game unlocks for the Metroid Amiibos, but we’ll have to wait and see when Metroid Prime 4: Beyond releases on December 4, 2025.
