Zelda Ocarina of Time remake release date may challenge GTA 6, after amiibo gives clue

Most publishers are desperate to avoid record-breaking GTA 6 sales. Even so, new amiibo listings may suggest that Nintendo is not as intimidated. A Redditor noticed that multiple Kirby Air Riders figures will debut on November 11th. Given the company’s history, the Ocarina of Time remake release date could arrive simultaneously.

In a June Direct, the gaming giant revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake would ship in 2026. Since then, fans have learned nothing more about the modernized N64 classic. Yet, the Sword Kirby & Dragoon is one of two amiibo spotted on the Nintendo UK store that could provide a hint.

Amiibo detective work

The Reddit post discusses how Nintendo often releases the interactive accessories alongside different first-party games. For instance, the Tears of the Kingdom-inspired Mineru’s Construct will surface on September 17th. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is slated to premiere on the same date.

Paying tribute to Kirby Air Riders, Dedede and Tank Star accompanied Rhythm Heaven Groove on July 2nd. Less recently, Meta Knight and Shadow Star shared Pokopia’s March 5th launch window.

One reason to doubt the discovery’s significance is that November 11th is on a Wednesday. That’s an unusual day of the week to see new amiibo or Switch and Switch 2 titles. Nevertheless, a November Ocarina of Time remake release date wouldn’t be shocking.

A November Nintendo surprise?

Leaker NateTheHate believes that the Zelda game could position itself as a holiday console seller. The suspected month is suspiciously bare, lacking any confirmed first-party exclusives. With GTA 6 lurking on the 19th, that’s the case industry-wide.

If any company can survive the monopolization of sales, it may be Nintendo. Unlike Xbox and PS5 consoles, the Rockstar game won’t come to its latest handheld on day one. Anticipation for the Ocarina of Time remake is also arguably higher than for any of its other competitors.

It’s unclear if fans will benefit from amiibos specifically commemorating the Zelda 40th Anniversary. However, leaks uncovered a Switch 2 Pro Controller and console adorned with the celebration’s unreleased logo.
