Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has shared some additional information about the upcoming GTA 6 ‘Netflix Special.’ The insider spoke with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick himself and asked him about the decision to make it a timed Netflix exclusive, as well as about the scope of the extended look.
Schreier cited Zelnick in his latest YouTube video (linked below) and the Game On newsletter, and said that pre-orders for GTA 6 were “unprecedented” as they “vastly” surpassed the company’s internal forecasts. The CEO refrained from sharing actual numbers, saying he didn’t want to mislead investors with raw data.
As for the Netflix extended look slated for August 27, Schreier asked Zelnick why they decided to go with Netflix, to which Zelnick responded by citing the massive user base of the streaming platform. He also reportedly said that once people see the extended look, they’ll know why Take-Two went with Netflix. Schreier then asked if it would feel like a Netflix show, to which Zelnick simply said “yes.”
Furthermore, the CEO called it a “must-see event” without sharing any specifics. Schreier believes that with this marketing push, the publisher wants GTA 6 to reach a non-gaming audience, as well as those who know about the game but weren’t going to buy it on day one.
