GTA 6 leaks reportedly anger Rockstar but won't delay Netflix show amid investigation

DMCA takedowns and legal action from Take-Two Interactive have shown the severity of recent GTA 6 leaks. Bloomberg insider Jason Schreier has now shared that “Rockstar’s leaders and many employees are angry.” As the search for Cyberleek continues, there are no plans to delay the August 27th Netflix Extended Look.
The elusive Cyberleek
A source with knowledge about the studio’s response updated Schreier. Little progress has been made in identifying the culprit who uploaded numerous gameplay clips. Still, a massive effort is underway to avoid more videos spoiling the Netflix special and the November GTA 6 release date.
Take-Two first targeted social media posts that showcased the footage for copyright infringement. The publisher then subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord for information related to the leaks. With those records possibly weeks away from release, Schreier says marketing campaigns remain on course.
The Bloomberg journalist explains that Rockstar is particularly frustrated since stringent security was already in place. In 2022, a hacker executed a data breach that stole around 90 videos from an earlier build. Controversial changes, including terminating remote work, didn’t prevent the latest round of GTA 6 leaks.
In addition, Schreier reveals that the game “isn’t yet finished but is getting close.” Management has urged developers to keep working despite the distractions.
The show must go on
Rockstar would likely hesitate to nix the GTA 6 Netflix Extended Look because of the substantial amount of money involved. The studio can also follow up on past trailers with a comprehensive and polished look at the title. Fellow insider NateTheHate believes the Cyberleek videos are from a build that’s at least a year old. They may not reflect the current state of the open-world crime epic.
Other fans think that after months of silence, the leaked footage actually boosts marketing efforts. The clip featuring a crop-dusting plane confirmed the game's enormous map. While the samples are rough around the edges, it’s questionable whether they have led to canceled pre-orders.
