HP has added a new OmniBook 3 16 configuration with AMD's Ryzen 7 H 255 processor, 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The laptop also has a 16-inch 2.5K 240 Hz display, a 68 Wh battery and a 1.64 kg chassis. In China, it is priced at 6,399 yuan (about $952).

HP has added a new configuration of the OmniBook 3 16 with AMD's Ryzen 7 H 255 processor, following the recent global release of the OmniBook 5 16 with Intel Panther Lake processors.

We recently reviewed the OmniBook 3 17, where we liked its affordable price but were concerned about its average processor and limited upgrade options. The new 16-inch configuration uses the Ryzen 7H 255, a significant step up from the previous model's processor.

The Ryzen 7H 255 has eight cores and 16 threads, with boost speeds of up to 4.9 GHz and Radeon 780M integrated graphics. In our processor comparison, it scores around 13% higher than the Ryzen 5 240 overall. Cinebench 2024 shows a larger difference in multi-core performance, with the Ryzen 7H 255 averaging around 914 points compared with 654 points for the Ryzen 5 240.

Performance is also close to the Ryzen 7 H 260 in our comparison data. Both processors have eight cores, 16 threads, and Radeon 780M graphics, although the H 260 can reach 5.1 GHz compared with 4.9 GHz on the Ryzen 7H 255.

It comes with 16 GB DDR5-5600 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe SSD. HP allows the memory to be upgraded to 32 GB, while the SSD can be upgraded to up to 2 TB. For thermal management, HP uses two fans and two heat pipes.

Along with the processor upgrade, the new configuration gets a 16-inch display with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate. The panel uses a 16:10 aspect ratio, reaches 400 nits and covers 100% of the sRGB color space.

The chassis measures around 14.7 mm thick and weighs 1.64 kg, while the 68 Wh battery is paired with a 100 W charging adapter. There are USB-C and USB-A ports, HDMI and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, along with Wi-Fi 6.

The new configuration is currently listed in China for 6,399 yuan (around $952), where it is sold under the StarBook 16 name. HP has not yet announced pricing or availability for this configuration in other markets.
