HP releases new 14-inch laptop with 120 Hz VRR and 1,100-nit OLED display
At the end of July, we reported that HP had started selling the OmniBook 5 in the US with Intel Panther Lake processors. Available with up to the Core Ultra 9 386H, the OmniBook 5 14 (Intel) can also be configured with 32 GB of RAM and a 2.8K OLED display in a choice of four colours.
Now, the company has quietly started selling new AMD Ryzen alternatives. For context, these AMD and Intel models follow on from the Qualcomm Snapdragon X-powered model we reviewed almost a year ago (curr. $929 on Amazon). While our review unit featured the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100, the OmniBook 5 14 (AMD) starts with the Ryzen AI 5 330, which achieves around 7% higher CPU performance in our benchmarks.
Alternatively, the OmniBook 5 14 (AMD) can be configured with the Ryzen AI 7 445 or Ryzen AI 9 465. For reference, the Core Ultra 9 386H outscores the Ryzen AI 9 465 by about 14% in our CPU benchmarks. Conversely, the Radeon 880M enjoys a 23% lead over the 4-core Xe3 iGPU in GPU benchmarks, which grows to 27% when gaming.
Additionally, the OmniBook 5 14 (AMD) can be configured with up to 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD and Glacier Silver, Meteor Silver, Starlit Blue and Sahara Silver colours. On top of that, HP sells Bluetooth 5.4/Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.0/Wi-Fi 7 modems, albeit only a 59 Wh battery. Finally, the 14-inch comes with a trio of OLED displays up to a 2.8K panel with 100% DCI-P3 colour space coverage and a 120 Hz variable refresh rate, as well as 500 nits SDR and 1,100 nits HDR peak brightness. Pricing starts at $1,129 but grows to $2,069 for a fully configured unit.
