Arco is a tactical fantasy RPG with a Western flair. Instead of roaming the Wild West as a gunslinger, however, players follow four Indigenous heroes on a quest for revenge against the ruthless Red Company. Released in 2024, the RPG has been exceptionally well received on Steam, with 95% positive reviews from around 1,500 ratings. According to SteamDB, it is now 60% off for the first time, dropping the regular price from around $20 to $7.99. The RPG is also Steam Deck Verified.

The highlight of the game is its unusual combat system. Arco is turn-based, but unlike most games of its kind, heroes and enemies perform their actions simultaneously. Players can see in advance where enemies are going to move or shoot and must plan their next move accordingly. At times, it almost feels like a bullet hell game: projectiles fly in every direction and poor positioning can quickly spell defeat. Attacks and special abilities require Magia, which is replenished by moving around. Simply hiding in a safe corner is therefore rarely a good idea. Player behavior also affects combat. Those who make questionable decisions and accumulate guilt will be haunted by ghosts that can interfere during battles.

Over the course of the story, players take control of all four main characters. Their initially separate stories are told one after another before eventually converging. The journey leads through dense jungles, barren deserts and vast plains inhabited not only by colonists and rival factions, but also by spirits and other monsters. In other words, the Western setting also comes with a distinct fantasy flavor. Visually, however, the game sticks to minimalist pixel art. In its review, Softpedia awarded Arco 8.5 out of 10, praising its compelling revenge story and innovative combat system in particular. However, the game can apparently become overwhelmingly difficult at times. It also lacks voice acting and convincing sound design.
