Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake issued age rating, with release date news anticipated

Rumors of a September 10th Nintendo Direct suggest fans may soon learn more about an anticipated Zelda game. With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake release date in 2026, the title is due for an update. The Switch 2 game took a necessary step toward a global launch, receiving a 12+ age rating in Korea.

Is the remake more graphic?

Minimap noted that Nintendo applied for the rating on July 16th, before seeing the results posted on July 24th. In South Korea, games are deemed suitable for All, 12+, 15+, or 18+ age groups. 12+ candidates often have moderate fantasy/cartoon violence and mild profanity, or limited sexual content.

Unfortunately, the website doesn’t explain which scenes are potentially offensive to the youngest players. The 3DS version of the celebrated Zelda game carried an All Ages rating in the country.

The June 9th Nintendo Direct offered a brief glimpse of the Switch 2 title. Ahead of the Ocarina of Time remake release date, fans have debated whether to expect a 1:1 recreation. The latest hint may not confirm the existence of new levels. Disturbing areas like the Shadow Temple could look more frightening only by updating their visuals.

The Ocarina of Time remake is already listed as ESRB E10+ in the United States and provisionally PEGI 12 in Europe. These match the 3DS age rating and also don’t provide many clues about unique content.

A Direct seems inevitable

Barring a delay, the publisher is running out of time to narrow the project’s launch window. A Nintendo Direct is a likely occasion to name a specific date or open pre-orders. Recently, YouTuber SwitchForce hinted that a showcase would premiere on August 10th. A Ubisoft leak then fueled more speculation by revealing Just Dance: Decade of Hits news on the same day.

To commemorate the Zelda 40th Anniversary, a limited edition Switch 2 console and Pro Controller have also emerged. With the Ocarina of Time remake as a central attraction, Nintendo could opt for a franchise-focused event.
