The long-awaited remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag seems to be nearing an official reveal, as another leak surfaced hours before the Game Awards 2025 kicked off. A listing for an “Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag: Resynced” was briefly spotted on the PEGI ratings board.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag IV: Resynced received a PEGI rating of 18+, but was quickly removed from PEGI’s website, and screenshots are now circulating online. It seems Ubisoft is indeed working on a Black Flag remake behind the scenes, as speculation continues to grow.
Unfortunately, the PEGI rating didn't specify any platforms, leaving fans wondering whether it’ll arrive on PS5, Xbox, PC, or Nintendo Switch 2.
Rumors surrounding Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag: Remake have been around as early as 2023. Back then, insider reports claimed that Ubisoft Singapore was discreetly rebooting Black Flag after finishing work on Skull and Bones.
Now in 2025, Ubisoft has yet to announce the title officially, but has indirectly hinted at the project’s existence. In its recent financial report, the company confirmed that it has one “unannounced title” in development, which is scheduled to launch before March 31, 2026.
Further leaks include Edward Kenway's voice actor, Matt Ryan, dropping hints about a return to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. This prompted Ubisoft to issue a legal warning to the voice actor.
The name “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced” suggests that Ubisoft is working on a complete remake of its 2013 title instead of a remaster. Further leaks in the gaming community suggest that Ubisoft will remove modern-day storyline elements to focus on the Golden Age of Piracy, adding several hours' worth of extra content.
The PEGI listing also mentions in-game purchases or microtransactions. It’s pretty possible that Ubisoft could add microtransactions like cosmetic skins and ship upgrades, as the company implemented this in its latest title, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.
As The Game Awards kick off, it is quite possible that Ubisoft could announce Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag: Resynced with a cinematic trailer. With over 15 million units sold in its lifetime and the game’s critical reception, a Black Flag remake could be the salve Ubisoft is looking for.
