Assassin’s Creed Unity gets free 60 FPS patch as Ubisoft officially teases Black Flag Resynced remake and outlines future AC roadmap

Ubisoft has shared a big update on the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, showcasing improvements to older titles, new projects currently in development, and updates planned for the coming months. The most immediate changes focus on older games, with Assassin’s Creed Unity receiving a long-requested performance update and reports pointing to a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Assassin’s Creed Unity receives a free 60 FPS patch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Ubisoft has confirmed that a free 60 FPS patch for Assassin’s Creed Unity will roll out for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 5, 2026. The update lifts the earlier 30 FPS cap on PS5, as Xbox Series X|S players were already able to play the game at 60 FPS thanks to the console’s FPS Boost feature.
The company said many fans have been asking for a performance upgrade for years. With the patch applied, AC: Unity is likely to see a surge of new players very soon.

Xbox players will also get a chance to try the game during Xbox Free Play Days between April 2 and April 6, when multiple Assassin’s Creed titles will be available to play for a limited time.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag “Resynced” remake reported in development
Alongside the AC: Unity update, Ubisoft acknowledged ongoing speculation around older Assassin’s Creed titles returning in updated forms. One of the most discussed projects is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced, which is widely believed to be a remake of the 2013 pirate-themed game.

While Ubisoft has not formally revealed detailed information yet, the project is expected to revisit the story of Edward Kenway with modern graphics and updated gameplay systems. The company also recently released brand-new official artwork for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on its official blog, effectively confirming the project without explicitly announcing it. Earlier reports had suggested that the Black Flag remake could launch before March 31, 2026. With Ubisoft recently teasing the game at the start of the month, the timeline may still be plausible, although the company has not confirmed any release window yet.
Future Assassin’s Creed projects
Ubisoft also shared updates on several Assassin’s Creed projects. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which launched last year, has received multiple updates based on community feedback, including improvements to the parkour system.
The game will mark its first anniversary with a livestream on March 20 at 10 AM PT / 6 PM CET on Ubisoft’s Twitch channel. The studio also confirmed that Shadows is entering its final phase of support, with smaller updates planned going forward.
Ubisoft added that Codename Hexe, a darker narrative-driven entry, and Codename Invictus, a PvP multiplayer project, are still in development. The company also said Assassin’s Creed Jade and a Netflix live-action series remain in the works.
