A new Switch 2 Pro controller could ship by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake release date. The Zelda-inspired accessory would celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Nintendo franchise. A recent leak raises doubts about the rumored limited edition console to match.

Despite pre-order rumors, Nintendo is closely guarding The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Whether the company will launch any Zelda-themed hardware around its release date is also unclear. Still, a new leak suggests that instead of a special-edition console, fans may see a Switch 2 Pro controller.

A predictable color scheme

Mike Odyssey shared the rumor about the accessory on social media. Necro Felipe then corroborated the claim, adding that he had seen its design. According to the Brazilian journalist, the Zelda controller would feature green and gold handle grips. The unmistakable Triforce emblem would sit toward its center.

Both sources have somewhat mixed track records, even if Nintendo has a long history of dedicating gear to the RPG series. Most recently, when Tears of the Kingdom debuted, the manufacturer unveiled a last-gen Switch Pro controller.

While any follow-up is likely to be popular, some fans were anticipating a refreshed handheld. In March, insider Shpeshal Nick said that a Limited Edition Switch 2 console would accompany the updated Zelda game. He couldn’t confirm whether the title itself would be part of a bundle.

Not the right time for a Zelda handheld?

Hope may not be lost for buyers awaiting the Ocarina of Time remake release date to upgrade. Mike Odyssey is more pessimistic, but Necro Felipe can’t rule out its existence. If developers successfully modernize the N64 classic, it could become a system seller. Leaker NateTheHate expects it to be the Mario maker’s major holiday attraction.

On the other hand, the memory shortage has introduced manufacturing challenges. Already more expensive in Japan, other regions will suffer a Switch 2 price increase on September 1st. There has been speculation that, to boost sales, Nintendo will open Ocarina of Time remake pre-orders before that date.

A Zelda Switch 2 Pro controller may demand a premium, but still be affordable by comparison. It would join a growing collection of Joy-Cons, gamepads, and other accessories devoted to Link and the Princess.
