Ahead of remake, Ocarina of Time ported to iPad/ iPhone using AI, running at native resolution, 60 FPS

Nintendo has officially confirmed that a Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is underway with a vague 2026 release. Originally released in 1998, the game came out on the Nintendo 64. Since then, it has been officially ported to other handhelds like the GameCube, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS (3D remake), as well as unofficially to Windows, Linux, macOS, Switch, and Android. Now, another platform has been added to the list, this time thanks to AI.
Kahris on X has been able to natively run Ocarina of Time on an iPad and says it will run on the iPhone as well. In the post, he explained that he used Codex 5.6 Sol to build the iOS layer with just one command. After researching, Kahris finalized a prompt and then let Codex 5.6 Sol run for hours. He emphasizes that it’s not an emulation or being streamed from a Mac.
Because it was decompiled to C and then rebuilt as a native ARM64 app using the AI tool, there are no 240p 20 FPS limitations, and the game runs on the iPad’s native resolution at 60 FPS. Touch, keyboard, mouse, and Bluetooth controllers work as well. Kahris has provided the full build as an open-source project on GitHub and also explained his process in the comments.
A recent Zelda 40th Anniversary logo leak suggests that the remake release may be close, so while Nintendo works on bringing the game to the Switch 2, those who want to experience the original at a higher resolution and frame rate can check out this project.
