The highly-anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is finally here. An old rumour said it wouldn't arrive until 2023. Now, Nintendo has essentially confirmed it by showing off The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at its Nintendo Direct event. Unfortunately, eager players will have to put away their Sheikah Slates, as the game will be playable on only 12 May 2023.
Nintendo also gave players a small glimpse into what The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could have in store for players. Like its predecessor, it involves a lot of gliding through the air, climbing and platforming. Players will likely spend a lot of time in the sky and we can expect to see some new gameplay mechanics centred around air travel. Strictly speaking, this isn't new information and had been hinted in last year's gameplay trailer.
The graphics seem to be identical to the original, but one can expect to see a few visual upgrades here and there. Then again, the Switch runs fairly dated hardware. BOTW already stresses it enough and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will likely be forced to use the same engine. It is probably the last major title in the franchise before an eventual Switch Pro gets announced somewhere down the line.
