A Nintendo Direct announced the release date and price for a modernized N64 classic. Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake pre-orders also opened at the gaming giant’s storefront and its partners. However, many fans were waiting to see if Walmart would sell the physical Switch 2 game at a discount. The retailer has finally listed boxed cartridges for $59.99, a $10 savings.

Discounts for collectors

In May 2026, Nintendo tweaked its retail strategy for first-party titles. Digital versions now typically cost $10 less than their physical counterparts. However, to avoid losing sales, storefronts like Walmart have matched eShop pricing for pre-orders. That policy means it’s offering the best deal ahead of the November 5th Ocarina of Time remake release date.

Amazon has now price matched its rival. Otherwise, at alternative marketplaces, the Switch 2 game is $69.99, while the digital option is $59.99.

Early adopters of the anticipated Zelda title will enjoy another perk. During the Nintendo Direct, the company revealed that the first print run of the physical game would have textured foil cover art. It’s unclear if there is enough supply of this variation to satisfy all Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake pre-orders.

A good value?

Although not everyone agrees, the September 8th showcase was generally well received. The developers mostly stayed faithful to the original, but overhauled its graphics. They also added a jump button to make exploration feel less scripted, along with various quality-of-life improvements.

Leading up to the Direct, fans wondered whether the project was a 1:1 remake. Even after the latest trailer, the question remains up for debate. Nintendo preserved the celebrated narrative and kept the same characters. On the other hand, while some areas are now explorable, it doesn’t appear that Hyrule was massively expanded.

The reasonable Ocarina of Time remake price may reflect a lack of risk-taking. When a leak from an Australian retailer suggested a $59.99/$69.99 price, some Switch 2 owners assumed it was more of a remaster. Regardless, the Walmart and Amazon discounts could prove too tempting for skeptics.
