In Tower Dominion, players defend the last stronghold of the Empire against increasingly dangerous waves of alien Arthronids. They are aided by one of 30 heroes, each featuring unique abilities and tactical strengths that encourage different playstyles. Developed by Parallel 45 Games, the strategy title is free to try on Steam until August 3. Players who want to continue afterward can purchase Tower Dominion at 40% off until August 9, reducing the price from $17.49 to $10.49. According to SteamDB, this matches the game's lowest-ever price, most recently seen during the Steam Summer Sale.

At its core, the game follows the classic tower defense formula. Players build towers, upgrade their defenses and fend off increasingly powerful enemy waves. Unlike many other games in the genre, however, the battlefield is not fixed. Instead of only placing towers, players also shape the map itself, funneling enemies into self-created chokepoints or deadly kill zones. After each wave, players choose from new rewards, while heroes, blueprints and upgrades are permanently unlocked over time. Combined with randomized upgrade choices, these roguelite elements ensure that every run presents fresh tactical decisions.

In its review, Softpedia awarded Tower Dominion 7.5 out of 10, praising its successful blend of tower defense and roguelite progression, its wide selection of heroes, the variety of upgrades and its strong replay value. On the downside, the publication criticized the rather simple visuals, repetitive audio design and limited map variety. Even so, the game appears to have struck a chord with genre fans. On Steam, 85% of more than 5,200 user reviews are positive.

While Tower Dominion doesn't reinvent the tower defense genre, it introduces enough original ideas to stand out from the crowd. If you're looking for something to play this weekend, it's well worth trying – and that also applies to handheld gamers. Steam currently rates the strategy game as Playable on Steam Deck, while ProtonDB has awarded it a Platinum rating, indicating near-flawless compatibility.
