Nintendo Switch 2 gets 8,000 mAh battery mod from Chinese modder
A Guangzhou-based seller on Xianyu (China's used-goods marketplace), going by "筷子电玩" (Chopsticks Gaming), is offering a third-party battery replacement service for the Nintendo Switch 2 that bumps capacity to 8,000 mAh, up from the stock 5,220 mAh cell—a jump of roughly 53%. The listing is priced between ¥230 and ¥280 (roughly $34 to $41).
The mod involves cutting away part of the console's internal frame bracket to fit the larger cell, sanding the area down, and applying insulating tape before reassembly. The seller describes the mod as invasive, warns that it voids the original warranty, and cautions buyers to stick with Nintendo's original charger, claiming that third-party chargers carry a risk of damaging the console or the battery itself.
The listing also includes battery-life test results from what it says are more than 50 test runs, mostly involving The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in Kakariko Village at varying brightness and volume levels. Runtimes range from about 3 hours and 25 minutes to just over 4 hours, depending on the settings—solid improvements over the stock battery.
As with other aftermarket battery mods, this one is unofficial, is unsupported by Nintendo, and carries inherent risks to the device. Worth noting: Nintendo has quietly begun selling a revised Switch 2 with a user-replaceable battery in parts of Europe, driven by an EU mandate. If that version rolls out more broadly, swaps like this one could become much less invasive.
