It may still be some time away, but Devolo is planning to enter the multigigabit segment with 802.3bz. The company has already confirmed that a compatible switch is in the works. That device would also complement the new BE9300-series of mesh routers that is scheduled to launch soon.

In an interview with Notebookcheck, Devolo announced that it is developing a multigigabit switch. The German company already offers several switches, but they are limited to data transfer speeds of 1 Gbit/s. These products primarily round out Devolo's broader lineup, which includes 16-port and 8-port switches announced and subsequently launched last year. Priced at around €90 and €40, respectively, these are relatively basic models.

Demand for 2.5 Gbit/s, also known as 2.5GbE and covered by the IEEE 802.3bz standard, has increased in recent years. Devolo therefore plans to launch another switch in 2027 that supports wired throughput of 2.5 Gbit/s. However, the company was unable to provide further details at IFA in Berlin. It remains unclear whether Devolo is planning an entire product family, although 16-port and 8-port models would also be conceivable. The company did not disclose pricing or a more precise release window, only stating that the switch is expected sometime in 2027.

The switch would complement the previously announced high-end BE9300 mesh systems, which are scheduled to launch by the end of the year. Each unit features a 2.5GbE RJ45 port that can be used for either LAN or WAN. The BE9300 routers will be available individually or in preconfigured two- and three-unit packs, with support for adding more units. When asked, Devolo confirmed that five units will definitely be supported, and even more may be possible.
