Ubiquiti introduces Enterprise Campus Switch Core with 3.2 Tbit/s throughput

Ubiquiti Networks just launched a new Enterprise Campus Switch Core with Layer 3 switching features. This model is supposed to be the core switch in larger installations and requires 1U in a 19" rack at full depth. Two switches can be combined via Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation (MC-LAG), which offers redundancy as well as load-balancing. Ubiquiti targets high-availabiltiy scenarios with the new products.
The switch offers a lot of bandwidth internally. The switching capacity is rated at 6.4 Tbits/s while the total non-blocking throughput reaches 3.2 Tbit/s. The core also supports 1,000 VLANs as well as 128,000 MAC addresses. The switch is marketed as a 3.2 Tbps high-density 100G Layer 3 Etherlighting core switch. There is also a version with 1.8 Tbit/s, which uses SFP28 ports instead of the QSFP28 ports of the larger version.
Speaking of which: The switch offers 32 QSFP28 ports overall and needs to be adopted via a QSFP28 port. One cannot use the Out-of-Band (OOB) Management port at the back of the switch. The switch also offers an RJ45 port for console access for on-site troubleshooting.
The QSFP28 ports can be configured for 100GbE or 40GbE. Ubiquiti offers modules or direct-attached cables (copper-based) that are compatible. A cable costs about 35 USD, and transceivers are available for 169 to 299 USD.
For redundancy reasons, the switch offers two hot-swappable power supply units and five hot-swappable fans accessible via the back of the switch. The front offers a small status touchscreen for basic information.
The new switch with QSFP28 ports is being sold for 5,393 USD, including a 394 USD memory surcharge. The SFP28 version costs 4,314 USD. The Enterprise Campus Switch Core line is part of a new generation of switches by Ubiquiti.
