Qnap has introduced a new top-of-the-rack switch (L3), namely the QSW-M7230-2X4F24T. The switch is primarily responsible for communication outside the rack and collecting or distributing data internally within the rack. For more reliable operation, the switch supports MC lag for redundancy.
Not only is it powerful, it is also relatively compact, negating the need for a server cabinet. For connection to other racks or beyond, the QSW-M7230-2X4F24T offers two QSFP28 slots for 100GbE transceivers or short-range DAC links. The switch also has four SFP28 ports for 25GbE connections via corresponding SFP28 modules or a DAC.
The remaining ports are RJ45 Ethernet jacks. The switch supports speeds up to 10 Gbps (10GbE) and PoE++ (802.3bt) simultaneously. This makes the switch suitable for directly connecting high-performance PoE cameras. A separate Ethernet port is available for switch administration.
The switch occupies one rack unit in a 19-inch rack and is not particularly deep. It certainly won't be quiet, as it's designed for data centers. The model on display was initially just a dummy unit without internal components.
The exact release date of the switch is not yet known. It is expected to launch no earlier than early 2026. QNAP has not yet announced a price.
