135W PoE++ and 2.5 Gbps: Affordable multi-gigabit switch launches

More cameras, faster WiFi access points, and growing data volumes are pushing many company networks to their limits. When the network becomes the bottleneck, expensive rewiring is often the threat. That's the issue Trendnet is now trying to address with the new TPE-BG350 5-port switch. The compact network switch combines multi-gigabit with PoE++ at a comparatively low price.
Trendnet's compact TPE-BG350 desktop switch measures 6.3 x 4.3 x 1.0 inches and has five RJ45 ports, each of which supports data transfers at 2.5 Gbps according to the IEEE 802.3bz standard. The 25 Gbps switching capacity is intended to provide enough headroom for smaller offices or home offices even when several devices are active at the same time. The key economic factor: The TPE-BG350 reaches this speed smoothly over existing Cat5e cables. This makes it possible to upgrade the infrastructure to multi-gigabit without having to replace a single cable in the wall.
In addition to the data rate, the 5-port switch also delivers power over the network cable. Four of the five ports support the high-power PoE++ standard (IEEE 802.3af/at/bt) and provide a total power budget of 135 W. Since up to 95 W can be delivered per port, even powerful PTZ security cameras, smart LED lighting, or digital signage systems can be operated without issue. Separate power connections for the end devices can therefore be eliminated, significantly simplifying network planning.
Despite its high output, the TPE-BG350 operates silently thanks to its fanless metal enclosure and can be mounted either on a desk or on a wall. For professional networks, the switch also supports 802.1Q VLAN and 802.1p QoS passthrough. The TPE-BG350 is available now for $149.99 MSRP.
