Ubiquiti announces U7 Mesh with Wi-Fi 7 and long range

Ubiquiti Networks recently unveiled its new U7 Mesh Wi-Fi units at MWC (Mobiile World Congress). As the name suggests, the new WiFi 7 access points (802.11be) are capable of creating a larger Wi-Fi network using mesh technology. They are the successors to the U6 Mesh and offer the same 140-square-meter coverage and the ability to operate antennas directionally in the 5 GHz band, enabling greater distances between mesh points. The previous models lacked this capability.
Interestingly, the data rate has decreased from 4.8 to 4.3 Gbps on the 5 GHz band due to the switch to Wi-Fi 7. However, the U7 Mesh is designed to handle a large number of Wi-Fi clients more effectively thanks to reduced latency. The 6 GHz band, introduced with Wi-Fi 6E, is still lacking. Devices are now limited to the 2.4 GHz band. For improved roaming between access points, the new WiFi 7 generation also supports the 802.11k, r and v standards.
A Power-over-Ethernet switch or a PoE injector is required for the power supply. Ubiquiti includes the latter. A 2.5GbE port is provided for network connectivity.
Ubiquiti sells the units with accessories for both indoor and outdoor installation. This allows users to choose the necessary installation method after purchase. For IPX6 protection, the wall mount with its rubber seal is mandatory. The U7 Mesh units are therefore also an alternative to the existing U7 (Pro) Outdoor models.
According to Ubiquiti, the U7 Mesh units have been completely redesigned. Outdoor protection, in particular, has been improved, and the installation process has been simplified.
The mesh units are now available at a price of $199.
