New Nintendo Switch 2 for EU shows off its removable battery

Nintendo has begun selling the revised Switch 2 with a user-replaceable battery a.k.a. Nintendo Switch 2 V2 in Europe. Now, a video has surfaced, showing the changes Nintendo has made to the design, both on the outside and inside.

According to the Spanish publication, Nintenduo, the revised Switch 2 now features screws with standard Philips heads, and they are not hidden under hard-to-remove stickers. When you finally get the case opened, the Switch 2 is shown to have a redesigned internal.

Unlike the original Switch 2 (available on Amazon for $499) which requires you to remove the metal shielding to get access to the battery, the Switch 2 V2's battery is accessible once you remove the back cover. The battery doesn't have any foam around it, and there's an arrow at the top right corner that shows you where to lift to remove it.

The battery inside the revised Switch 2 has a 5,172mAh capacity which is approximately 1% smaller than the 5,220mAh capacity of the original. This means there shouldn't be a noticeable difference in the playtime you get between the original Switch 2 and the new version with the user-replaceable battery.

Unfortunately, the video doesn't show the removal of the battery, but according to the source, Nintendo will release an official guide for replacing the battery which owners have to follow so as not to void the warranty. Nintendo will also sell tools and replacement battery kits for the Switch 2 and other battery-powered accessories. There's no info yet regarding when the repair guide will be released and how much the battery kits will cost.
