Deal | “The new BioShock”: Open-world shooter drops to $12 from $60 for the first time on Steam

Retro-futurism, a failed utopia and supernatural abilities: Hearing those words, most people will probably think of BioShock first. However, there is another game that combines these ingredients: Atomic Heart. Anyone eagerly waiting for BioShock 4, which is currently being developed by 2K studio Cloud Chamber and has unfortunately been delayed, can make do with Mundfish's 2023 title in the meantime. The game is currently 80% off on Steam, bringing the price down to around $12 from $60. According to SteamDB, this marks a new all-time low. Given its Steam Deck Verified status, the deal could also be interesting for gamers who play on a handheld.
Instead of the underwater city of Rapture, players find themselves in an alternate version of the Soviet Union in the 1950s, where rogue robots and bizarre mutants have taken over. As special agent Major P-3, players must find out who is behind the catastrophe. To do so, they have access to traditional firearms and melee weapons as well as an experimental glove that can freeze, electrocute or launch enemies through the air. There are also puzzles, climbing sections, an upgrade system and optional research facilities. It's no wonder, then, that German gaming magazine GameStar describes Atomic Heart as “the new BioShock.”

According to German gaming magazine PC Games, however, the shooter does not quite live up to its famous inspiration. The review particularly praises the unusual setting, strong art design, varied combat and excellent soundtrack. On the other hand, it criticizes the rather weak open world, rudimentary stealth system and a number of technical issues. Overall, however, the game still earns a strong 8 out of 10. The verdict on Steam is similar: Of around 51,900 reviews, 80% are positive.
