Easier-to-repair Zelda Switch 2 console and Pro Controller are real and shipping

European buyers may not know there are multiple varieties of the Zelda Switch 2 console and Pro Controller. Although retailers like Amazon list versions with a replaceable battery, Nintendo has not confirmed the option. However, as the hardware launches, some gamers are receiving the more repairable revision.
In July, Nintendo announced a tweaked design for the handheld and controllers, including the Joy-Con 2. The changes were made to comply with EU right-to-repair regulations. Still, the company’s website indicated the Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition gear wouldn’t share this perk. The Irish Smyths Toys was one of the first storefronts to suggest otherwise.
How to recognize the revised models
While frequently sold out, shoppers will find unfamiliar SKUs for the Zelda Switch 2 console and accessories. They also have new model numbers, with the gaming system and packaging identified by BEE-001(-01) instead of BEE-001. Now, some pre-order buyers are sharing pictures of the hardware.
Redditor Giga-Hurtz posted pictures of the green, gold, and black Zelda edition handheld and Joy-Con 2. To make the battery accessible, two screws are visible on the magnetic attachment rails. Inside the console, the part isn't secured with adhesive, and the heat shield doesn't slow down repairs.
Nintendeal provided an early look at the standalone Pro Controller on social media. Stamped BEE-008 (-01), the most obvious alteration is the cover on its top edge. Two Phillips screws let owners more easily reach components protected by the housing.
Minor drawbacks
There are caveats, such as slightly reduced battery capacity and a heavier handheld. The Pro Controller may also need recharging sooner, but is lighter. Regardless, the performance impact is minimal, and many consumers would likely prioritize repairability.
If in production long enough, the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console and accessories could launch in other regions. The model numbers for the revised products surfaced in a recent FCC listing.
