OWC intros new Thunderbolt 5 dock with 2.5G Ethernet, dual HDMI 2.1

OWC is quite a well-known name in the realm of computer docks and other expansion accessories. The brand has announced a new Thunderbolt 5-based dock with quite a lot of attractive features and a premium price tag. 

Simply dubbed the OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dock, the product features the following ports: 

• Thunderbolt 5 host port with 140 W power delivery (PD)
• Thunderbolt 5 downstream port with 30 W PD
• Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2, triple USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C ports (only one with 30 W PD, rest 7.5 W)
• Single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, dual USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports with 7.5 W PD
• Dual HDMI 2.1
• 2.5 G Ethernet
• MicroSD slot, SD slot
• 3.5 mm audio jack 

The dock measures in at around 5.6 by 7.5 by 16.5 cm, or roughly 2.2 by 3 by 6.5 inches, while tipping the scales at 1 kg or 2.29 lbs. 

Those curious about exact display support will be pleased to note that the dock can support a total of three 6K displays at 60 Hz, or even three 4K displays at 144 Hz. Pixel enthusiasts with deeper pockets can even run two 8K displays at 60 Hz. Finally, two 5K monitors such as the Studio Display, can be operated at 60 Hz.

There appears to be no support for internal M.2 SSDs, which might be disappointing for some people. 

The dock is expected to be available sometime in the month of November, with a price tag of $349.99. That said, folks who would rather get a cheaper, less capable dock can check out something like the Acer 16-in-1 docking station currently available for just under $200 on Amazon.
