Deal | AMD-powered premium laptop with 10-core CPU and OLED display discounted by $300

Given just how insane DRAM and NAND prices have been of late, laptops which we would have otherwise considered pricey are starting to seem downright affordable.

For instance, spending almost $900 for a laptop with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage might have been absurd just a year or so ago. But now, if specced correctly, such a deal is more than fair.

For instance, the Ryzen AI 9-powered ZenBook 14 laptop with an OLED display and 16 GB of RAM is now available for $900 on Best Buy, courtesy of a $300 discount. A single glance a price tracking websites reveal that this is indeed the lowest-ever price for this specific laptop so far.

The 10-core AMD Ryzen AI 9 465 is based on the Zen 5 architecture, featuring four powerful Zen 5 cores and six efficient Zen 5c cores. In raw benchmarks, the APU is roughly 2 or 3% slower than the Core Ultra X7 358H found in many premium laptops. In simpler terms, the ZenBook 14 laptop should be more than capable of handling almost any moderately intensive workload thrown its way.

That said, the Radeon 880M GPU, while perfectly decent, is no match for the Arc B390 GPU found in Intel's latest Panther Lake family. Even then, the iGPU should be able to manage the raw performance of a GTX 1650 mobile GPU, which should allow it to perform well enough in non-intensive games and other lightweight GPU workloads. Compared to other iGPUs in its price class, the Radeon 880M performs admirably well. 

According to our in-depth review of an older variant of this laptop, CPU performance did drop slightly in our Cinebench R15 loop test. It is unclear if the variant on sale will show similar behavior, but it should be noted that it does feature a much more powerful processor.

Asus claims a 500-nit peak HDR brightness and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut for the laptop's 14-inch 1200p OLED display. Our review does praise the display for its complete coverage of the P3 color gamut, but its peak full-screen brightness only happens to be around 400 nits. 

Color accuracy was also very admirable without requiring any calibration.

The I/O situation might be a bit disappointing for some, with the ZenBook 14 laptop featuring only one USB4 port, a single USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, an HDMI port, a headphone jack, and a single USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port.

At its current discounted price on Best Buy, the ZenBook 14 laptop brings commendable value for folks who desire a lot of CPU performance but don't really require a lot of RAM. 

Interested buyers are also requested to be mindful of the fact that the laptop does not feature upgradable memory, but it does feature upgradable M.2 storage (2 TB Samsung 990 Pro is now $390 on Amazon).
