AMD Ryzen 9-powered laptop with 32 GB RAM and 2 TB storage arriving soon

Geekom is a brand that is mostly known for their mini PC and SFF offerings. However, they do also make laptops, sold under the GeekBook branding.

The GeekBook X16 Pro is one such 16-inch laptop offered by the famous Chinese OEM, currently powered by a pretty decent Intel Core Ultra 9 185H CPU. Courtesy of our friends over at TechPowerUp, it appears that the company is preparing an update for the X16 Pro laptop.

GeekBook X16 Pro laptop to get a taste of AMD Zen 5

To be more specific, the updated GeekBook X16 Pro will soon be powered by AMD's Gorgon Point APUs, up to the impressive AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 chip. Featuring a total of 12 Zen 5 cores and 24 threads, the HX 470 APU features barely any performance improvements over its predecessor, the well-reputed Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.

That said, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 should be able to master a sizeable 32% improvement over the Core Ultra 9 185H currently found in the GeekBook X16 Pro laptop, as we mentioned earlier. Folks who care a lot about CPU performance will almost certainly feel the uplift in their day-to-day workloads.

Moreover, the Gorgon Point APU's powerful Radeon 890M iGPU should easily be able to keep up with the 185H's 8-core Arc iGPU in most workloads, while having a slight advantage in others.

The Geekom GeekBook X16 Pro laptop will also come equipped with 32 GB of LPDDR5-8533 RAM, and a 2 TB SSD. It is unclear if any lower-tier variants will be available, but it does seem quite likely. A 2560 x 1600 IPS display will be present, with a claimed 100% coverage of the sRGB color gamut and 120 Hz refresh rate. 

The I/O on offer has been detailed below:

• Dual USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
• USB4, USB 3.2 Type-C
• HDMI 2.1
• 3.5 mm audio jack

Other notable features include a 77 Wh battery, which is the same as the current generation, precision-milled unibody frame (magnesium alloy construction), WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. More details regarding weight, dimensions, and cooling should be available soon.

Exact pricing and availability details are unclear. Given that the current-gen Geekom GeekBook X16 Pro laptop (with a similar config) costs $1,280 as of this writing, the new variant should cost at least as much.
