Geekom A9 Max mini-PC now better equipped and more affordable: dual-channel RAM included

RAM will remain a crucial factor in the actual performance of modern mini-PCs even in 2026. Especially for devices with powerful integrated graphics units, the choice of RAM configuration can make a significant difference. This is also evident with the Geekom A9 Max.
While our test unit was shipped with a single RAM module, Geekom now uses two SO-DIMM modules in its current models. This allows the memory to operate in the faster dual-channel mode, which noticeably boosts the performance of the integrated Radeon 890M in particular.
The reason: In a single-channel configuration, only a portion of the available memory bandwidth is utilized. This is particularly problematic for iGPUs, as they do not have their own dedicated video memory and access the system RAM directly. A second RAM module can significantly increase the available bandwidth and thus noticeably boost 3D performance. CPU-intensive applications and multitasking can also benefit from the higher memory bandwidth.
The Geekom A9 Max thus impressively demonstrates that a mini-PC’s performance isn’t determined solely by the processor and graphics unit. According to Geekom, the current models with two SO-DIMM modules are correspondingly better equipped and should offer a significant performance advantage over the single-channel configuration we tested. We are currently testing this and will use selected benchmarks to show just how significant the performance gain actually is and what advantages the dual-channel configuration offers, particularly with the Radeon 890M.
Price and Availability
The Geekom A9 Max is regularly available for $1,599 directly from the manufacturer or on Amazon.
Specifications
CPU and System Performance
The Geekom A9 Max also benefits noticeably from a second RAM module. Only with two memory modules does the system operate in fast dual-channel mode and can significantly improve the use of the available memory bandwidth. The integrated Radeon 890M, in particular, sees a performance boost as a result, while the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 also benefits from the faster memory interface.
As our current benchmark results show, the performance gain varies depending on the application. The additional memory bandwidth is particularly noticeable in graphics-intensive benchmarks. This demonstrates that, even with the Geekom A9 Max, the maximum performance of the built-in hardware is only achieved with a dual-channel configuration. In the following tests, we’ll show just how significant the performance difference actually is between one and two RAM modules in the Geekom A9 Max.

AMD Radeon 890M shows a noticeable performance boost
The Geekom A9 Max’s integrated AMD Radeon 890M benefits significantly from a second RAM module. Only with two DDR5 memory modules does the iGPU have full memory bandwidth available in dual-channel mode. Since the graphics unit uses the system memory as video memory, the higher bandwidth directly impacts 3D performance. Depending on the game and resolution, this can result in significant performance gains, as our benchmarks show.

Short conclusion — Powerful mini-PC with a key improvement
The current version of the Geekom A9 Max, equipped with two RAM modules, is significantly more balanced than our original test sample. The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 delivers high CPU performance and is now supported by a dual-channel memory configuration. This particularly benefits the integrated Radeon 890M, which can now better leverage its performance thanks to the higher memory bandwidth. This largely eliminates the previous limitation caused by the single-channel RAM.
Beyond performance, the A9 Max impresses with its high-quality—albeit familiar—chassis, a comprehensive array of ports, and comparatively low-power consumption. Under load, the cooling system also remains pleasantly quiet. Drawbacks include the lack of OCuLink and USB4 v2 interfaces, as well as the still somewhat outdated front-panel port layout.
In its current configuration, the Geekom A9 Max is thus a significantly more well-rounded solution. Anyone who values a powerful iGPU should definitely opt for the version with two RAM modules. For demanding applications, multimedia, and occasional gaming, this mini-PC offers a compelling combination of performance, features, and a compact design.
