Verdict - Geekom A7 Max Mini-PC with Ryzen 9 7940HS: Performance that still convinces
The Geekom A7 Max presents itself as a powerful mini PC based on the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS in combination with the AMD Radeon 780M iGPU. With 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, it offers a solid foundation for demanding applications. The mini PC also offers scope for upgrading the device at a later date. However, the configuration with a RAM module is still disadvantageous, as can be seen from the 3D performance in our review. The extensive connectivity sets it apart positively from many other mini PCs. Limitations arise from the larger housing and the lack of an OCuLink interface, which means that models such as the Minisforum EliteMini UM890 Pro are more flexible in this respect. The workmanship and design are of a high standard and are among the strengths of the A7 Max.
As is typical for mini PCs, the Geekom A7 Max is also energy-efficient overall and is content with low-power consumption in everyday use. The system remains pleasantly quiet in idle mode, but the fan is clearly audible under load. A circumstance that we are already familiar with from the Geekom A8 Max or the Geekom A9 Max. A better-tuned fan control would give the device a better overall result. Unfortunately, Geekom again loses this advantage with the A7 Max.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
With the Geekom A7 Max, the manufacturer is clearly targeting demanding users. Equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS with 8 cores and 16 threads, the compact mini PC promises high computing power in a small housing. This means that the A7 Max is not only up against strong competition from Minisforum and the like, but also has to hold its own within Geekom's own lineup.
Specifications
Case & Connectivity
The Geekom A7 Max uses the same, larger housing as the A8 Max or the A9 Max, clearly distinguishing it from earlier models. Nevertheless, Geekom has opted for the frequently used aluminum housing, which means that all the advantages and disadvantages remain the same. The workmanship is of high quality and corresponds to the price range. With a weight of around 681 grams, the Mini-PC remains lighter than some competitor models despite its size, while the compact 256-gram power supply unit is hardly noticeable.
The generously sized housing allows for an extensive range of connections: a total of six USB-A ports are available, four of which are at the front, supplemented by two USB4 ports at the rear and two HDMI outputs. This allows up to four monitors to be operated simultaneously. A fast SD card reader on the side completes the equipment, while USB4 enables high data rates, as external SSDs impressively demonstrate.

Accessories
Maintenance
The Geekom A7 Max is delivered from the factory with RAM and SSD installed and is immediately ready for use. The housing can be opened for users who need to upgrade. The RAM, mass storage, and WLAN module are easily accessible and replaceable. However, you should be careful when opening it due to the short WLAN antenna cable.
Sustainability
The Geekom A7 Max is only repair-friendly to a limited extent, but offers a 36-month warranty. The compact packaging makes transportation easier, while Geekom emphasizes the low energy consumption when it comes to sustainability.
Test conditions
All measurements were carried out with the Geekom A7 Max in the delivery state (Normal Mode). Although the performance mode available in the BIOS increases the fan speed and performance, it is accompanied by a significantly higher noise level under load.
Processor
The Geekom A7 Max with AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS (Zen 4, 8 cores, 16 threads) delivers a solid overall performance and is positioned in the broad mid-range of current mini PCs. The SoC can briefly consume up to 65 watts, but under sustained load, consumption levels off at around 45 watts. Despite its processor no longer being brand new, the A7 Max shows that convincing performance is still possible several years after its market launch.

Cinebench R15 Multi Loop
The Cinebench R15 endurance test confirms that the Geekom A7 Max has a well-designed cooling system overall. Although a slight decline in performance under continuous load cannot be completely avoided, this is much more moderate than with the Geekom A9 Max. The Ryzen 9 7940HS briefly reaches a power consumption of up to 65 watts, while the maximum temperature is around 84 C.
System performance
The fact that the Geekom A7 Max is equipped with only one RAM module is clearly noticeable in the results. The overall performance is therefore noticeably lower and also negatively affects the subjective performance perception in everyday use.

Mass storage
The Geekom A7 Max uses a 1 TB SSD with a PCIe 4.0 connection, which achieves decent, if not outstanding, transfer rates. For everyday tasks and productive workloads, however, the storage performance offered is easily sufficient. The cooling of the drive is designed in such a way that the performance remains stable even under prolonged load.

Graphics card and gaming performance
The Geekom A7 Max with AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS relies on the integrated Radeon 780M graphics, whose performance level is solid in our review but is limited overall by being equipped with only one RAM module. In synthetic benchmarks, the system therefore lags behind comparably equipped mini PCs, while only limited usable frame rates are achieved in games. The iGPU is sufficient for simple gaming scenarios, but as expected, the A7 Max cannot compete with systems with a dedicated graphics card such as an RTX 4050.

Temperature
The case of the Geekom A7 Max remains pleasantly cool both in idle mode and under load. In the stress test, the installed AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS briefly reaches temperatures of around 71 °C, which is not critical. The cooling system can reliably dissipate the permanently applied TDP of 45 watts.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 34.4 °C / 94 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.4 to 69.5 °C for the class Mini PC.
(+) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 36.1 °C / 97 F, compared to the average of 36.3 °C / 97 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 29.5 °C / 85 F, compared to the device average of 32.4 °C / 90 F.
(+) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 31.1 °C / 88 F, compared to the average of 32.4 °C / 90 F for the class Mini PC.
Energy management
The Geekom A7 Max presents itself as a comparatively efficient mini PC in this review. Even in idle mode, the power consumption is low, although 68 watts were measured under average load. The short-term load peaks of around 93 watts can be easily absorbed by the 120-watt power supply unit. In the efficiency rating, the A7 Max ranks in the upper field and only has to contend with the Geekom A9 Max being beaten.
