The Minisforum MS-02 Ultra presents itself as an exceptionally powerful mini PC that combines modern Intel Core Ultra hardware and generous storage options in a compact format. This makes the system suitable not only for demanding productive workloads, virtualization, or content creation, but also for local AI and server applications thanks to its high memory and I/O capacity.
Minisforum sets new standards in terms of build quality: the powerful technology is housed in a high-quality, robust casing that not only looks elegant but also allows easy access to the inner workings thanks to its sophisticated design. A clear unique selling point is the exceptionally extensive connectivity - above all two 25 Gigabit interfaces and numerous modern USB ports, which already make the MS-02 Ultra extremely future-proof.
We have to criticize the internal power supply unit in particular when it comes to noise. The built-in cooling system, on the other hand, works moderately and ensures stable operation without any loss of performance. If you are looking for maximum performance, network capability and expandability in the smallest of spaces, the Minisforum MS-02 Ultra is not a toy, but an uncompromising powerhouse - and one of the most exciting mini PCs in its class.

The Minisforum MS-02 Ultra is currently one of the most powerful Mini-PCs with an Intel CPU. With the Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX Minisforum installs one of the most powerful processors Intel currently has in its portfolio. As a compact workstation, the MS-02 Ultra can be equipped with up to 256 GB RAM and several SSDs. Even dedicated graphics cards can be installed, although the available space limits the choice to a few models. As a cheaper alternative, the MS-02 Ultra can also be equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX can also be ordered.

The Minisforum MS-02 Ultra impresses with a high-quality housing that harmoniously combines metal and plastic and leaves a professional impression. The mini PC is also extremely generously equipped in terms of connections: several modern high-speed ports, including USB4 V2, ensure maximum flexibility for peripherals and external extensions. The network equipment is particularly noteworthy: in addition to 2.5 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit LAN, the system has two SFP+ ports that enable transfer rates of up to 25 GbE. The compact system also allows a dedicated graphics card to be installed in a compact SFF format.

Accessories
The accessories are few and include two cables (IEC and HDMI connection cables) as well as another passive SSD cooler in a particularly flat design. The top model is also equipped with a PCIe plug-in card, which offers space for two additional M.2 SSDs in addition to the two SFP+ ports. This adapter card is not included with the Minisforum MS-02 Ultra with Intel Core Ultra 7 275HX CPU.
Maintenance
The Minisforum MS-02 Ultra can be opened quickly and easily. The inner workings can be separated from the high-quality housing after just a few screws have been loosened. Inside, the mini PC offers expansion options for additional M.2 memory and the installation of a low-profile PCIe plug-in card.
Sustainability
Minisforum does not provide any detailed information on specific sustainability measures during production. The packaging consists mainly of cardboard and is supplemented by foam inserts to protect the device during transportation.
Test conditions
All relevant tests were carried out in the delivery state. The CPU achieves a short-term power consumption of up to 140 watts, while it is limited to 100 watts under sustained load. If a PCIe plug-in card is also installed, the power consumption is reduced to 110 watts (PL2) or 90 watts (PL1).
Processor
Equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX the Minisforum MS-02 Ultra has enormous computing power, which underpins its use as a workstation. Within striking distance of the AMD Ryzen AI Max 395+ or the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX, our test sample only has to admit defeat by a small margin. The powerful cooling unit enables a permanent power consumption of up to 100 watts, although up to 130 watts are possible for short periods.

Storage Devices
Our test system of the Minisforum MS-02 Ultra uses a 1 TB SSD from Kingston. The connection is technically well implemented, even if the measured transfer rates in our tests are slightly below the level of some competitor solutions. The mini PC can be equipped with up to two M.2 2280 SSDs. If you have the top model with a separate PCIe adapter card, you can also install two additional M.2 SSDs.

GPU performance
An Intel Graphics with Xe architecture is used as the graphics unit. Compared to other iGPUs, our test sample has a hard time holding its own. The in-house duel with the Miniforum MS-A2 with a low-performance AMD Radeon 610M can be outperformed. Due to its low performance, the iGPU is only suitable for simple 2D rendering. More performance is only available in combination with a dedicated graphics card. The MS-02 Ultra offers an internal PCIe slot for this purpose. External solutions via USB4 V2 are also possible.

Emissions
System noise
In our measurements, the Minisforum MS-02 Ultra is clearly audible under full load. Even when idling, our test sample operates audibly at just under 39 dB(A) throughout. The fan in the power supply unit is responsible for this. After consultation with the manufacturer, they would like to make improvements here so that end customers should receive a quieter device. Unfortunately, it is not possible to adjust the fan speed of the power supply unit.

Temperature
The housing surfaces of the Minisforum MS-02 Ultra remain consistently inconspicuous both in idle mode and under load. Under full load, the processor reaches temperatures of around 80 °C and is able to keep the defined power consumption of up to 100 watts stable over a longer period of time.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 33.4 °C / 92 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.4 to 69.5 °C for the class Mini PC.

(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 27.9 °C / 82 F, compared to the device average of 32.4 °C / 90 F.
Energy management
The Minisforum MS-02 Ultra is not one of the most economical mini PCs in our comparison. The high results are already noticeable in idle mode, although these are also at the expense of the separate network card. The MS-02 Ultra is consistently stable under both medium and maximum load. The internal power supply delivers up to 350 watts, which still leaves enough room for the use of dedicated graphics cards. In terms of efficiency, the Minisforum MS-02 Ultra is sometimes clearly inferior to its competitors, including those from our own company.
