Verdict - Robust mini PC with USB4 and great value for money
As with other models in the GMKtec range, the NucBox M6 Ultra also offers a strong price-performance ratio. With the AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS, it easily outperforms many entry-level CPUs in this price range and is therefore well suited as a compact all-rounder or HTPC. Despite its low price, the device is flawlessly built. However, the NucBox M6 Ultra cannot compensate for the noticeable quality advantage of more expensive models with an aluminum housing. Particularly pleasing is the extended range of connections, which opens up additional usage options compared to its predecessor thanks to the upgrade to USB4.
However, the device shows weaknesses in terms of cooling: the mini PC is clearly audible under load and the fan control is still immature. Although it lacks a dedicated GPU for intensive gaming, the integrated Radeon graphics unit is perfectly adequate for multimedia, streaming and casual games. Overall, the GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra impresses as a compact all-rounder that combines strong performance and good connectivity in an attractive price-performance package.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra is available in the official online store starting at $259 for the barebone version. The test version with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD costs $389. The top model (32 GB RAM + 1 TB SSD) is also available on Amazon for $389.
The GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra combines powerful performance with an ultra-compact design. At its heart is the AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS, a 6-core/12-thread processor with a boost clock of up to 5.0 GHz, supported by the integrated Radeon 760M. Despite its small dimensions, the mini PC allows up to 128 GB DDR5 RAM and up to 8 TB SSD storage. We are testing the model with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD, which is currently available from just $389.
Specifications
Case & features
The GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra comes in a compact mini PC housing that is visually and functionally based on its predecessor. There is only one small change to the connections: there is now a USB4 port on the front, while the other ports remain unchanged.

Accessories
Maintenance
To open the device, the housing cover must be removed. The top of the housing underneath, which is secured with four screws, can then be removed. Some components can be replaced if necessary.
Sustainability
GMK does not provide any information on sustainability aspects in the production process. The packaging consists mainly of cardboard and is supplemented by a few foam elements to protect the device.
Performance
Test conditions
The test runs were carried out in the factory-set balanced mode (45 watts). A performance mode (50 watts) and a silent mode (35 watts) are also available in the BIOS.
Processor
The AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS in the GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra is a 6-core processor based on the Zen 4 architecture, which delivers solid performance in both single- and multi-core scenarios. With this processor, GMKtec is positioning its Mini-PCs in the lower mid-range segment and can match the performance of the Intel Core i9-12900HK in the BMAX B9 Power but can outperform it.

Graphics card and gaming performance
The GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra relies on the integrated AMD Radeon 760M, which delivers decent iGPU performance in everyday use. It achieves solid results in synthetic benchmarks, placing it in the midfield. In practical gaming tests, the iGPU performs adequately, although this is very dependent on the game. However, the Radeon 760M is clearly beaten by the more powerful integrated graphics units such as the AMD Radeon 890M or even the Radeon 8060S.

Emissions
System Noise
The GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra uses a compact cooling system with an additional fan for the SSD and RAM. Although the mini PC is not completely silent, it remains inconspicuous at around 30 dB(A) when idle. Under load, the noise level rises to up to 39 dB(A), slightly reduced to around 37 dB(A) in silent mode. The fan control still seems immature - more setting options, ideally via software, would be desirable.

Temperature
Under load, the case of the GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra heats up noticeably, but without reaching critical temperatures. In the stress test, the AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS initially rises to just over 86 °C, but then stabilizes at around 80 °C. The power consumption remains constant at the limit of 45 watts.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 43.6 °C / 110 F, compared to the average of 36 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.6 to 69.5 °C for the class Mini PC.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 41.8 °C / 107 F, compared to the average of 36.6 °C / 98 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 30.9 °C / 88 F, compared to the device average of 32.4 °C / 90 F.
(-) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 38.6 °C / 101 F, compared to the average of 32.4 °C / 90 F for the class Mini PC.
Energy management
In the test, the GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra with the Ryzen 5 7640HS proves to be relatively economical. In idle mode, the power consumption is at a moderate level. Under full load, an average of around 70 watts was measured, with brief peaks of up to 75 watts. In direct comparison with newer processors, however, the efficiency of the Ryzen 5 7640HS falls noticeably behind in some cases.

Notebookcheck rating
The GMKtec NucBox M6 Ultra impresses as a compact mini PC with solid everyday performance thanks to the Ryzen 5 7640HS, DDR5 RAM and fast PCIe SSD. Its weaknesses lie in its cooling, which becomes audible under load and its fan control still seems immature. However, with minor BIOS adjustments, the NucBox M6 Ultra proves to be a versatile all-rounder for office, multimedia and light creative tasks.
