Verdict - State-of-the-art components in a classic Mini-PC look

The Geekom Mini IT15 is a worthy successor to the Mini IT13 and impresses in the test as a powerful and efficient mini PC with the latest Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU. Geekom has retained the proven design, but under the hood is state-of-the-art technology. The Intel Core Ultra 9 285H offers sufficient reserves for office, multimedia, and light creative workloads. The compact casing is also the weak point of the Geekom Mini IT15, as the cooling solution quickly reaches its limits under prolonged load. As a result, a lot of performance potential remains unused, and the system is not particularly quiet under load.

The connectivity of the Geekom Mini IT15 is extensive but not quite optimal - a native OCuLink interface is missing, as it is already available on some competitor models. The integrated GPU delivers more performance than its predecessor but also falls short of expectations due to the conservative performance limits. A completely redesigned case with an optimized cooling unit would have done the Geekom Mini IT15 good and could have positioned it as a more serious challenger to the competition.

The Geekom Mini IT15 is based on the same compact format as its predecessors and measures just 11.7 × 11.2 cm. Despite the technical upgrade, the housing remains unchanged but now appears in plain black instead of turquoise.

In terms of connectivity, the Geekom Mini IT15 is well equipped but offers no major innovations here either. The most important change concerns the WLAN module: Geekom now relies on the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology for even faster and more stable wireless connections.

Maintenance

The Geekom Mini IT15 can be opened via the underside. Four screws secure the base plate, which also serves as a passive heat sink for the SSD. After removing the cover, the RAM, SSD slots and WLAN module are easily accessible. The fan is more difficult to reach and requires further disassembly.

Sustainability

The Geekom Mini IT15 is a compact mini PC whose repair options are limited by its design. The 36-month warranty is a positive feature that sets Geekom apart from many of its competitors. Details on recycled materials for production are missing.

With the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H, the Geekom Mini IT15 offers outstanding performance in everyday use. The combination of performance and efficiency cores masters demanding applications effortlessly and keeps pace with comparable AMD systems.

All tests in this review were carried out in the delivery state with the factory-set power limits. Adjustments to the fan curve are possible in the BIOS and can influence the performance of the processor in the Geekom Mini IT15.

The Geekom Mini IT15 is equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H - a powerful high-end processor from the Arrow Lake H series with 16 cores and 16 threads. Geekom limits the short-term maximum power consumption to 64 watts, while it is reduced to 33 watts under continuous load. The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 can be narrowly beaten.

Storage device

The Geekom Mini IT15 is equipped with a 2 TB NVMe SSD (Crucial P3 Plus) with PCIe Gen4, which offers stable performance even under load. An M.2-2242 SSD with SATA connection can also be installed - a corresponding thermal pad for cooling is missing ex works but can easily be retrofitted. Although a 2.5-inch data carrier can be physically installed, there is no corresponding connection on the motherboard. According to the manufacturer, future batches could be adapted in this respect.

Even when idle, the fan is constantly running and generates a low noise level, which becomes much more audible at over 47 dB(A) under medium and high load. If the silent profile is selected in the BIOS, the maximum noise level drops to 44 dB(A)—still a value that is too high in comparison.

The casing of the Geekom Mini IT15 remains pleasantly cool when idle. Under load, the temperatures increase selectively but remain in the uncritical range overall. In the stress test with Prime95, the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H reaches a maximum temperature of 95 °C. Under prolonged load, when the power limit (PL1) is lowered to 33 watts, the CPU temperature stabilizes at around 71 °C on average.
