With the Z2 Mini G1a, HP presents a compact workstation that relies on AMD's new Strix Halo APU for the first time. The combination of powerful CPU performance, integrated RDNA 3.5 graphics, and space-saving design is aimed at creative professionals, developers, and power users. In our test, we examined how the mini PC performs in everyday use—from performance and cooling to system efficiency.

The HP Z2 Mini G1a is positioned as a powerful yet extremely compact workstation for professional applications. At its heart is AMD's new Strix Halo APU, which offers impressive performance with 16 CPU cores and an integrated Radeon graphics unit. In the test, the system impresses with strong results in multi-threaded applications and 3D performance, which makes the mini PC particularly attractive for creative professionals and developers.

The equipment is modern and future-proof: 64 GB of fast LPDDR5X ECC RAM, a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, Thunderbolt 4 interfaces, and Wi-Fi 7 ensure high speeds and offer the flexibility to handle many everyday tasks. The build quality is high quality, and the casing can be opened without tools. There are limitations in terms of upgradeability—the RAM is soldered in place and therefore cannot be expanded. In everyday use, the system is efficient and responsive, but it is audibly loud under full load—too loud, as our test shows. If you are sensitive to noise or don't work remotely with the device, you can switch to a quieter mode, but this will cost you some performance. However, this pays off in practice. Energy efficiency remains at a good level overall.

With a clear focus on performance and a compact design, the HP Z2 Mini G1a is particularly suitable for users with very high demands but limited space. Despite the high price, the system offers strong overall performance and clearly stands out from previous Mini PCs thanks to the new AMD platform.
