Verdict: Asus ExpertCenter PN54 - Versatile solution for compact workstations
The Asus ExpertCenter PN54 proves to be a compact and versatile mini PC in the test, which is suitable for both everyday office use and more demanding scenarios. With the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350, it offers a solid combination of CPU, GPU and NPU performance that provides sufficient reserves for multitasking, media playback and AI-supported workflows. The support of DDR5 RAM, fast PCIe SSDs and modern interfaces such as USB4, which enable a high degree of flexibility when expanding and connecting external devices, is particularly positive.
In everyday use, the PN54 impresses with its stable performance. The integrated Radeon 860M is sufficient for office applications, multimedia and even light gaming. However, it quickly reaches its limits with modern games. Here, the USB4 interface at least offers the option of connecting an external GPU and significantly increasing the graphics performance.
The main points of criticism are the DPC latencies. The fan noises are also audible under load, although they are not disturbing in everyday use. On the other hand, the moderate energy consumption and the solid workmanship with stable housing construction and VESA mounting options are positive. Not to be neglected is the good update supply from Asus. The versatile competition from the Far East often cannot keep up in this respect. Nevertheless, with an MSRP of $1,100 USD, the Asus ExpertCenter PN54 is significantly more expensive than most of the comparable devices in this test.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The Asus ExpertCenter PN54 can be ordered at the MSRP of $1,100 USD directly from the Asus store. Amazon has listed the Barebone version starting at $699 USD.
With the ExpertCenter PN54, Asus is targeting users who are looking for a compact but powerful mini PC. The device is based on modern AMD Ryzen processors from the AI-300 series. Despite its small dimensions, the PN54 offers many interfaces and fast DDR5 RAM. In this test, we look at the top features of the ExpertCenter PN54 with AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 in combination with 32 GB DDR5 RAM. Alternatively, the PN54 is also available with AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 and 16 GB DDR5 RAM.
Specifications
Case & features
The Asus ExpertCenter PN54 looks modern and functional with its simple, rectangular design. With a height of around 34 millimeters, it remains compact and is even slightly smaller compared to most of its competitors. The housing is made of a combination of plastic and metal. The underside serves as a maintenance flap and is made of metal, while the plastic housing is reinforced by an internal metal frame.
The Asus ExpertCenter PN54 is equipped with numerous external interfaces, which are spread across the front and rear. The number of USB ports in particular is generous. HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C are available for the display connection, each with support for 4K (3,840 × 2,160) at a minimum of 120 Hz. If you use DisplayPort via USB-C, you can also use 4K at 144 Hz.

Maintenance
The Asus PN54 can be opened without tools, which enables the quick installation of RAM and SSD. In our test sample, there is still space for an additional data carrier in M.2-2280 format. Thermal pads are already included, which also saves some time when setting up the hardware.
Sustainability
The manufacturer does not provide detailed information on the CO₂ footprint. However, a CO₂ report is available on request from the manufacturer. The Asus PN54 will be certified to EPEAT Gold and the Energy Star standard.
Performance
Test conditions
All tests of the Asus ExpertCenter PN54 were carried out in the delivery state, which means that no changes were made to the TDP limit of the processor or the fan control. Nevertheless, Asus offers extensive options for customizing the PN54 to your own needs.
Processor
The AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 in the Asus ExpertCenter PN54 delivers high single and multi-core performance thanks to the Zen 5 architecture. In a performance comparison, the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 achieves approximately the performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS in the Geekom A8 Max. An Intel Core Ultra 9 285H offers slightly more performance, as can be seen from the GMK EVO-T1 can be seen.

System performance
The Asus ExpertCenter PN54 offers strong performance in everyday use. With DDR5 RAM and a fast PCIe SSD, the system runs smoothly and there are hardly any noticeable latencies. Compared to the competition, the device performs solidly, only in terms of AI performance do chips with a dedicated NPU have an advantage.

Storage devices
Asus installed a 1 TB SSD from Western Digital in our test device. Despite good transfer rates, it is only enough for a place in the midfield in comparison. Nevertheless, the performance of the mass storage is excellent and completely sufficient for everyday work. The Asus ExpertCenter PN54 can accommodate a total of two mass storage devices. There were no temperature problems in our tests.

GPU and gaming performance
AMD has noticeably improved the integrated graphics of the current Ryzen generation. The Radeon 860M with 512 shader units works in the Asus ExpertCenter PN54. The Radeon 780M and 890M as well as Intel's Arc Graphics 140T offer more performance, provided the TDP allows it. The 860M is only sufficient for modern games at a reduced resolution and detail level.
