The Minisforum AI X1 Pro is a compact, powerful mini PC based on an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Together with 64 GB of RAM, a fast SSD and an excellent selection of ports, the mini PC can also handle extremely demanding tasks. The mini PC is of high quality, and this is also reflected in the choice of materials used. The cooling aspect has been implemented perfectly, with the housing and the processor remaining pleasantly cool under load.
Overall, the Minisforum AI X1 Pro offers a strong mix of performance, connectivity and compactness, which is not only perfect for both productive applications and gaming but also offers the option of even more performance via an eGPU. The only minor point of criticism turns out to be the SD card reader, which is only suitable for occasional data transfers due to its weak performance.

- Notebookcheck overall rating
The Minisforum AI X1 Pro is a powerful mini PC that combines the latest hardware in a relatively compact case. It is aimed at demanding users who are on the hunt for a combination of high computing power, efficient cooling and AI-supported functions. Long-term use may also play an important role, and this is an expectation the new mini PC from the Far East certainly meets. With an excellent selection of external interface options, Minisforum has laid an important foundation.
Specifications
Case - Slightly bigger but very high quality
The Minisforum AI X1 Pro's case is noticeably larger than most mini PCs. The reason for this is obvious: Minisforum has integrated the power supply into the device and also added two speakers. When it comes to materials, the manufacturer is relying on a tried and tested combination of aluminum and plastic. While the silver aluminum part impresses with its first-class workmanship and gives no cause for criticism, the underside is made of simple plastic. Despite this, it lends the device a harmonious look. In addition, the AI X1 Pro can, if desired, be set up vertically with a stand or be attached using a VESA mount.
Features - A sensible selection with 2x USB4 and OCuLink
The variety of connections offered by the Minisforum AI X1 Pro covers all your essential needs. Three USB-A ports is not an excessive amount but should be sufficient for most users. In addition, two USB4 connectors ensure high flexibility and easy expandability. An OCuLink interface is also integrated, which enables optimal eGPU support. HDMI, DisplayPort and USB4 are available for connecting screens, which can also be combined. There are also two 2.5 Gbit/s LAN ports on the rear, while an SD card slot is located on the side; however, this only works at USB 2 speed.

Communication
The Minisforum EliteMini AI X1 Pro uses a Mediatek Wi-Fi module that supports both the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. However, our test highlights clear differences between the frequencies, so the 6 GHz frequency band should be used primarily. Alternatively, there are two 2.5G LAN ports on the rear. The Wi-Fi tests were carried out using the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000.
Accessories
Maintenance
The Minisforum AI X1 Pro's maintenance and upgrading are relatively straightforward. The base is attached with a few screws, one of which is hidden under a rubber cover. The unit (consisting of the power supply and loudspeaker) has to be removed to access the RAM and mass storage, and its short cables mean you will have to be careful when attempting this. The RAM, the Wi-Fi module and the SSD are replaceable. Two free M.2 2280 slots are also available for additional SSDs.
Sustainability
The packaging consists mainly of paper and cardboard and is hardly any bigger than the mini PC and its accessories. The manufacturer has not highlighted any special sustainability measures.
Performance - 12 cores, 64 GB of RAM and 1 TB NVMe
The Minisforum AI X1 Pro uses the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. The SoC is complemented by 64 GB of DDR5 RAM at 5,600 MT/s, and this will cover a wide range of applications. With the new Zen 5 architecture, AMD has also revised the integrated graphics unit, which means its AMD Radeon 890M is also suitable for light gaming.
Test conditions
All of our performance tests were performed using the Balanced power profile. Minisforum offers the option to change and lower the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370's power profile. All of the tests were carried out using factory settings, which correspond to the "Auto" performance profile.
Processor
The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is a powerful 12-core processor with Zen 5 architecture that offers high-level single and multi-core performance. Together with the powerful cooling unit housed inside the Minisforum AI X1 Pro, the performance can be perfectly utilized, and this resulted in our review sample securing first place.

DPC latencies
The Minisforum AI X1 Pro has to contend with excessive DPC latencies. However, these only increased dramatically after the launch of Prime95. Before that, the results were less than perfect, and this could be seen when playing the 4K test video. Experiencing dropped frames is not ideal, which means that our review device should not be your first choice as a streaming client for high-resolution videos.

Mass storage
The Minisforum AI X1 Pro uses a proven Kingston SSD, the type of which can be found in many Minisforum models. It offers consistently good performance but is not one of the fastest. The mass storage's cooling is excellent, and this can be seen from our measurement results. By comparison, only the Acemagic F2A suffered slightly and was unable to achieve stable reading performance in our test. The Minisforum AI X1 Pro supports up to three M.2 2280 SSDs, as other sizes are incompatible.

Graphics card
The Minisforum AI X1 Pro's iGPU is the AMD Radeon 890M, which is based on the RDNA3+ architecture and replaces the Radeon 780M. Thanks to additional processing units and a higher clock speed, it offers noticeably more performance. Compared to mini PCs with the Radeon 780M, the performance increase is around 15 percent and higher. The 890M also performs well when pitted against Intel's Arc 8-core iGPU but clearly lags behind an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 laptop.

Gaming performance
The gaming performance benefits from the powerful AMD Radeon 890M but requires reduced graphics details in some cases. Nevertheless, the iGPU is sufficient to run many games smoothly at medium settings. The iGPU's performance benefits from fast RAM, as can be seen with the Minisforum EliteMini AI370. Additional 3D performance for the Minisforum AI X1 Pro can only be achieved by using an external graphics card.

Minisforum AI X1 Pro performance check with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 via OCuLink
Thanks to the OCuLink interface, the Minisforum AI X1 Pro allows you to connect an external graphics card and, therefore, dramatically increase the graphics performance. While the integrated AMD Radeon 890M iGPU already offers solid gaming performance for medium details, pairing the device with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 allows the full potential to be reached for demanding AAA titles and creative workloads. However, the graphics card's maximum performance is not available due to the lower bandwidth. Nevertheless, the OCuLink connection is, without question, superior to the more common USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 options.

Emissions - The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is cooled reliably
Noise emissions
The Minisforum AI X1 Pro is cooled by two fans, one of which also cools the RAM modules. A heat pipe construction cools the SoC, which in turn is equipped with its own fan. When running idle, the mini PC is barely audible, but under load, the noise level rises to an audible 41.8 dB(A). Things don't get any louder under maximum load. Various fan profiles are available to choose from in the BIOS - the "Quiet Mode" can reduce the noise level significantly to 36.1 dB(A).

Energy management - Good efficiency but not the top spot
The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 offers tons of performance without increasing the power consumption enormously, as the efficiency analysis shows. However, our review sample was unable to keep up with the Minisforum EliteMini AI370's (with the same SoC) excellent results. Mini PCs are generally more economical than conventional desktop PCs, and the Minisforum AI X1 Pro also proves itself to be relatively efficient: When idle, it only consumes 8.6 to 10 watts. Under average load, the consumption increases to 70 watts, with peak values of 97.7 watts. The internal 135-watt power supply worked reliably in our test and still offered enough leeway if additional SSDs are installed.
