Khadas Mind 2 review: Portable mini PC now with Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4
The significantly better Mind Mini PC.
Khadas is updating its current model range of the Mind series and is now equipping it with new Intel processors. We take a closer look at the Khadas Mind 2 with Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and evaluate the performance based on numerous measurements and benchmarks. As it turns out, the manufacturer has not only updated the SoC.Sebastian Bade, 👁 Sebastian Bade, ✓ Anton Avdyushkin (translated by DeepL / Ninh Duy) Published 🇩🇪 🇫🇷 ...
Verdict - Extremely thin mini PC with lots of potential
The first generation of the Khadas Mind is already impressed with its appearance and excellent workmanship. The new edition of the Mind 2 picks up on the same points, and on top of that, the manufacturer has worked on many small details and further improved the device. In addition to new Intel Meteor Lake processors, the device itself has much better connectivity. Thanks to the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, there is a significant performance boost and a modern iGPU, which is noticeably superior to the older Intel Iris Xe.
With Thunderbolt 4 and USB4, the user has two interfaces at their disposal, that were absent on the predecessor. The manufacturer has thus cleared the way for alternative solutions to be used. Nevertheless, there is a lot to be said for the manufacturer's original accessory, as the specially developed connection on the underside of the device offers significantly more bandwidth with PCIe 5.0 speed. The impact this has on the use of an external graphics card could be seen in the test, as USB4 quickly reaches its technical limits. In principle, the Khadas pursuing a good approach here. In order to use the basic advantages of the Khadas Mind 2, there is no getting around the optional Mind Dock.

The Khadas Mind we already took a close look at it last year. Almost a year later, Khadas has updated the SoC in the Mind 2, which now uses Intel's Meteor Lake processors. But this is not the only area where the manufacturer from the Far East has made changes, as the Mind 2 also clearly stands out from its predecessor with its revised connectivity. The Khadas Mind 2 is available in three different versions. The cheapest model starts at 799 US dollars. It is then equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD. You have to pay 1,099 US dollars for the device with Intel Core Ultra 7 155H with 32 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD, although the top model is equipped with the same SoC, but 64 GB RAM and a 2 TB SSD. However, the top-of-the-range configuration comes at a hefty price of 1,399 US dollars.
Khadas sent us the Mind 2 in the mid-range configuration. We will now take a closer look at how well the mini PC performs against its competitors. We have summarized a list of the comparison devices that accompany us in this review in the following table.
Specifications
Case - High-quality aluminum housing
The Khadas Mind 2 has the same housing that we already know from the Khadas Mind. The manufacturer continues to rely on a sturdy uni-body housing made entirely of aluminum. Only a small amount of plastic is used in the area of the IO ports on the back. If you place both devices next to each other, there is a slight color difference. The manufacturer seems to have changed a few things in the manufacturing process. The dock, which we already looked at in last year's test, no longer fits perfectly with the Mind 2. Technically, the Mind 2 is compatible with all accessories that Khadas offers for the Mind mini PC. In terms of space requirements, Khadas is still way ahead with the Mind 2. The mini PC clearly stands out from the competition, especially with its height of just 20 millimeters. Due to its small dimensions, the small PC is very light. The device weighs just 437 grams. The 65-watt power supply unit weighs 83 grams and is therefore also one of the lighter models.
Features - Khadas Mind 2 gets TB4 and USB 4
Because the Mind 2 has the same basis as the Khadas Mind of the first generation, we don't see any major changes in the Mind 2 at first glance. Technically, however, Khadas has massively upgraded the two USB-C ports. These now support Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4 and expand the mini PC's range of applications enormously. If you need more 3D performance than what the iGPU of the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H doesn't necessarily have to use the proprietary GPU dock. However, you need to be aware of the limitations that Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4 bring with them. In terms of bandwidth, the two USB-C ports are clearly inferior to the proprietary Mind-Link port on the underside. This offers PCIe 5.0 speed and can make much better use of external graphics cards. This interface is the first choice for external drives. With the ADATA SE920, we carried out a short performance test to illustrate this.
The Khadas Mind 2 is also equipped with a small battery. If the power supply is interrupted, the system is put into standby mode. It is possible to continue working quickly after connecting to the power source. This means that the device can also be used on the move between different rooms. In combination with the Mind xPlay, it can even replace a laptop. On request from the manufacturer, the Mind xPlay is expected to be launched on the market soon. Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not give us an exact date. For more information on the accessory, please refer to the test of the Khada's Mind.

Communication
Khadas continues to install the Wi-Fi 6E AX211 module from Intel in its mini PC. In principle, this is a good choice. The data rates for sending and receiving data show a midfield position in this comparison. The wireless module is permanently installed and unfortunately cannot be replaced. In view of this, Khadas should have opted for a Wi-Fi 7 module in order to be optimally equipped for the future. As can be seen from the results, the 6 GHz frequency band should primarily be used. The tests were carried out in combination with our ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 test router.
Accessories
The scope of delivery itself is very spartan. Only the mini PC itself and the 65-watt power supply unit including USB-C cable are included in the box. Other accessories, such as the Mind Dock, the Mind Lether Case or the Mind Graphics Dock, can be purchased separately.
Maintenance
Maintenance work is possible, but is limited to cleaning the fan. If you want to open the device, you have to remove four small screws located under the glued-on rubber feet. The already installed SSD can then also be replaced. The RAM and WLAN module, on the other hand, are permanently installed and cannot be replaced or upgraded. However, there is a flap on the underside that can be used to install another M.2 data carrier. Here, however, you are limited to the M.2-2230 standard.
Sustainability
The Khadas Mind 2 is a very compact mini PC, which makes repair work almost impossible. With the exception of the SSD, all important components are permanently installed. The manufacturer is praised for its compact packaging, which certainly makes transportation easier. However, the manufacturer does not provide any more detailed information on the use of recycled materials for production. The warranty period of the Khadas Mind 2 is specified as 24 months.
Performance - Intel Core Ultra 7 with 14 cores and 22 threads
The new edition of the Khadas Mind 2 is available with two different processors. In addition to the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H customers can also opt for the slightly cheaper model with Intel Core Ultra 5 125H model. A fast LPDDR5 RAM with 6,400 MT/s or 7,467 MT/s is used for the RAM.
Test conditions
We carried out all performance tests with the maximum performance
energy profile. We did not change the performance of the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and left it in auto mode according to the BIOS settings. Other energy-saving plans were only used for power consumption and the noise measurements according to our test criteria.
Processor
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H belongs to the Meteor Lake H series and combines 16 cores and 22 threads. A separate NPU is also included, which is intended for special AI calculations. The performance compared to the Mind of the first generation could only be increased in a few tests. Only in the AIDA64 tests do we see a clear advantage for the new model. In figures, this means a performance increase of 28 percent in the average performance comparison. At the same time, we also see that the Khadas Mind 2 does not manage to stay ahead of the Minisforum UH125 Pro. However, the reason is quickly found here, as the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H cannot be operated with 64 watts permanently due to its design. The performance that the SoC can deliver with a more powerful cooling unit is illustrated by the comparison with the Acemagic F2A.

System performance
The general system performance benefits from the new SoC, although this is not visible in all synthetic benchmarks. The result in the Crossmark test is even slightly worse than the Khadas Mind with Raptor Lake processor. On the other hand, the RAM tests, which we compare with AIDA64, are a completely different story. Here, the Mind 2 with the fast DDR5 RAM (6,400 MT/s) achieves the best result.

NPU performance
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is equipped with a Neural Processing Unit, which can calculate AI applications particularly efficiently as a separate part of the SoC. The UL Procyon AI Interface Benchmark is used for the performance comparison. Compared to the Acemagic F2A with the same SoC, we see identical performance, although the pure CPU performance of the Khadas Mind 2 is significantly worse in the duel between the two devices. Asus can compete with the NUC 14 Pro which is certainly a result of the significantly higher performance margin in terms of the processor's TDP.

DPC latencies
The Mind 2 cannot shine at all when it comes to the documented DPC latencies. Almost all devices have significant problems here, although our test device delivers the worst result. We achieved the peak value even when simply surfing with the Edge browser. As a result, the DPC values did not increase further when playing the 4K test video or the short stress test. Due to the low number of dropped frames, the Khadas Mind 2 can still be recommended as a streaming client for high-resolution videos.

Mass storage
The Khadas Mind 2 contains the same data memory as the Mind of the first generation. Nevertheless, there are clear differences in terms of performance. The connection is optimal with PCIe 4.0 x4 and what the Western Digital SN740 can technically achieve. Nevertheless, the Raptor Lake substructure of the previous generation seems to be better. The performance now shown in Mind 2 is nevertheless excellent and more than sufficient for everyday use. In the stress test, however, both Khadas devices are in agreement: Both devices deliver identical performance, which is also accompanied by no loss of performance. The factory-installed mass storage is an M.2 SSD with a length of 30 millimeters. Another model with the same length can be retrofitted.

Graphics card
The iGPU of the Khadas Mind 2 is the Intel Arc 8, which now offers significantly more performance than the outdated Intel Iris Xe G7, that was still used in the predecessor model. The performance yield of the Intel Arc 8 is definitely astonishing, as it beats the AMD Radeon 780M of the Geekom AX8 Pro. However, the lead is only wafer-thin and by no means noticeable. Nevertheless, this was not to be expected after we had already scrutinized the performance of the processor.

Gaming performance
Unfortunately, the outstanding performance of the Intel Arc 8 is not evident in the gaming tests. Here, the Khadas Mind 2 clearly falls behind the Geekom AX8 Pro. However, the Mind 2 can still handle graphically undemanding or older games.
For a detailed overview of the iGPU's performance compared to other graphics cards, please refer to our GPU game list.

Performance check with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090
Those who need more 3D performance now have two options with the Mind 2. Khadas offers proprietary Mind Graphics for its devices, which is also compatible with the older model. It is equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. You can choose between the 8 and 16 GB models. The special feature of the Mind Graphics is the connection to the mini PC itself. This takes place via the Mind Link port, which is specified with a speed of 128 GT/s. This allows the external graphics card to work at full bandwidth, which is the case with USB4 or OCuLink connections. The Mind 2 is equipped with USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 and now also allows the use of alternative solutions to increase 3D performance. This was not possible with the older model.
In combination with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 we carried out some tests to illustrate the increase in performance that can be expected with the fastest consumer graphics card currently available. The bandwidth limitation via a USB4 connection should not be completely disregarded, as the graphics card only works at PCIe 3.0 x4 speed. In fact, this is not as noticeable in the purely synthetic tests as it is in the gaming tests. Compared to the Minisfoum MS-A1 we can already see a massive loss in performance, which is even more pronounced compared to a conventional gaming PC. In the render tests, on the other hand, the drop in performance is less pronounced. In this combination, it is therefore not possible to clearly predict how the general increase in performance will turn out. However, there is a noticeable increase in 3D performance compared to the iGPU.

Temperature
The housing of the Khadas Mind 2 only heats up slightly when idle. It becomes noticeably warmer if the device is used for a longer period. Due to the choice of materials, the heat is distributed quite well across the casing. However, we still measured slightly higher temperatures in the area of the fan outlet on the left-hand side. However, there are no extreme hotspots with values above 50 °C.
In the load test with Prime95, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H reaches a peak of 86 °C. This is not a problem for the SoC, because according to Intel's specifications, the processor can be operated at a temperature of up to 110 °C. With an average power consumption of 35 watts, the temperature stabilizes at around 82 °C.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 43.9 °C / 111 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.6 to 69.5 °C for the class Mini PC.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 44.2 °C / 112 F, compared to the average of 36.6 °C / 98 F
(±) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 33.5 °C / 92 F, compared to the device average of 32.4 °C / 90 F.
(-) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 40.7 °C / 105 F, compared to the average of 32.4 °C / 90 F for the class Mini PC.
Power consumption
The compact 65-watt power supply unit is the same as that used in the first-generation Mind. When idle, the Khadas Mind 2 requires very little energy: the measuring device only shows us 9 to 12.5 watts. Under load, the energy requirement then increases significantly. We recorded an average of 49.7 watts, which is similar to the other competitors. At the peak, we measured brief peaks of up to 65.5 watts, which the power supply has no problems with.
