Minisforum UH125 Pro review: AI mini-PC with Intel Core Ultra 5 125H, 32 GB DDR5 RAM and 1 TB SSD comes at a price
The manufacturer itself advertises the Minisforum UH125 Pro as a powerful AI mini-PC with OCuLink connection. The processor is an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H, which can definitely offer a certain added value with its separate NPU. However, we can now also find this option in other SoCs. Minisforum does not offer other CPU configurations for the UH125 Pro. When purchasing the Minisforum UH125 Pro, the buyer is faced with the decision between the barebone variant and our test configuration. Without RAM and SSD, the device can be pre-ordered for 499 euros. The regular price, however, is 629 euros. If you want to purchase the Minisforum UH125 Pro with 32 GB DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB SSD, you will have to dig deeper into your pockets: The RRP is currently 879 euros. However, Minisforum is offering the device for 699 euros during the pre-order phase.
In terms of price, the Minisforum UH125 Pro stands out neither positively nor negatively. The competitors against whom we pitted the Minisforum UH125 Pro are listed in the following table.

Minisforum UH125 Pro in detail
Case - Aluminum and plastic in a good combination
The Minisforum UH125 Pro is sold exclusively in black color. The manufacturer relies on a mix of aluminum and plastic for the materials used. The latter can be found on the top and bottom, although the main part of the case is made of metal. This gives the device excellent stability, which is also accompanied by impeccable workmanship. The power button and the Copilot button are located on the top. The latter is simply a button to start the Copilot assistant. However, it is questionable whether this feature will be used often in practice.
The Minisforum UH125 Pro takes up slightly more space on the desk than its competitors. In terms of height, our test device ranks in the midfield, although the 49 millimeters do not make the device appear bulky. In relation to the 14.5 centimeters in width and depth, the Minisforum UH125 Pro has enough internal space to accommodate a powerful and efficient cooling unit. The Minisforum UH125 Pro can also be attached to a monitor via a VESA mount.
Equipment - USB4 in double version and OCuLink
The Minisforum UH125 Pro scores with a good selection of interfaces. Both the number and the choice of ports are excellent. Two USB4 interfaces are not necessarily the standard for mini-PCs. However, Minisforum proves that this is possible. The manufacturer also installs an OCuLink port, which is primarily used for external graphics cards. Minisforum itself has already announced its own model. The position of the ports is good, but not perfect. The DisplayPort connection stands out negatively here. If the underlying USB-A is in use, it is practically impossible to remove the DisplayPort cable as it is often fitted with a catch. Screens can also be controlled via HDMI. If you also use the two USB4 ports for image output, you can operate up to four screens simultaneously on the Minisforum UH125 Pro.
The Minisforum UH125 Pro is equipped with an SD card reader, which is only recommended to a limited extent in terms of performance. Devices with faster UHS-II card readers deliver significantly better transfer rates. The SD card reader in our test device is therefore more of an emergency solution.
Important note on the OCuLink connection: The manufacturer points out that this interface doesn't support hot swap, which means that the mini-PC must be switched off before connecting the device. In the worst-case scenario, ignoring this feature can result in damage to the devices. Aoostar has also explicitly pointed this out with a similar note on its devices.

Communication
The Minisforum UH125 Pro is equipped with an Intel Wi-Fi 6E-AX210 radio module, which ensures wireless network communication. The WLAN module can operate in 2.4 GHz as well as in 5 GHz and 6 GHz frequency ranges. The test shows clear differences in performance, which are certainly noticeable in certain application scenarios. If a lot of data is transmitted, we primarily recommend using the faster 6 GHz radio network. Nevertheless, the somewhat slower 5 GHz wireless network is perfectly adequate for normal everyday use. In comparison, the Minisforum UH125 Pro is among the front runners. We carried out the WLAN tests with the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 router. As an alternative to the wireless connection, the Minisforum UH125 Pro has two LAN sockets. Both network connections can transfer data at up to 5 GBit/s. This makes our test sample stand out from the crowd.
Accessories
The scope of delivery includes the device and a compact 120-watt power supply unit. A VESA mounting plate including mounting material is also included. A quick start guide, HDMI cable, and power cable are also included.
Maintenance
If you order the Minisforum UH125 Pro as a barebone version, you will inevitably have to open the device to install the RAM and an SSD. In principle, this works relatively well, although the glued-on rubber feet on the underside are a bit of a hindrance. They conceal the four screws that hold the underside to the housing. However, care should be taken when opening the case, as the two lower USB ports are connected internally with a relatively short ribbon cable. In order to access the RAM and an SSD, the fan must then be removed. Twelve screws have to be unscrewed for this. Internally, the Minisforum UH125 Pro is similar to the Minisforum AtomMan X7 Ti. The two M.2 interfaces are concealed under a solid metal cooler. One of these is already occupied by an 80-millimeter-long SSD in our test device. Two SO-DIMM modules can be installed for the RAM. The WLAN module can also be replaced. However, this is much more complicated, as the entire circuit board has to be dismantled.
Sustainability
The Minisforum UH125 Pro is supplied in a cardboard box appropriate to the size of the device. The accessories are packed in separate plastic bags, which could be improved in terms of sustainability. As already mentioned, the device itself is made from a mix of aluminum and plastic. We do not know whether special processes were used for the production of recycled materials.
Performance - Intel Core Ultra 5 with good performance
The Intel Core Ultra 5 125H is a solid mid-range SoC and belongs to Intel's Meteor Lake series. Overall, the SoC offers many native computing cores, which are ideally suited for multi-threaded applications. The iGPU has also been revised with the Meteor Lake series and, based on the Arc architecture, there is noticeably more performance compared to the outdated Xe iGPUs of the previous series.
Test conditions
We carried out all performance tests with the Balanced
energy mode. We did not change the performance of the SoC and left it in its default state according to the BIOS settings (Balanced). As an alternative to the Balanced, the SoC can also be operated in Silent and Performance mode. The same applies to the fan curve, which we have not changed any further. We will take a closer look at the different noise levels with regard to the various fan profiles later in the test.

Processor
The Minisforum UH125 Pro is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H. The SoC combines 6 P and 8 E cores and can process a total of 18 threads in parallel. Basically, the processor delivers solid performance, and occasionally the mid-range SoC can even compete with the Core i9 models. In the overall performance comparison, our test device has to settle for last place in terms of CPU performance. However, one should not be too deceived by this result, as Minisforum does not use the top model of the Meteor Lake series here. The gap to the Geekom AE7 is comparatively small with only 13 percentage points in the performance rating.

Cinebench R15 Multi loop
On the whole, the Minisforum UH125 Pro masters the Cinebench R15 continuous loop quite well. A closer look at the results reveals some fluctuations throughout the test. However, with an average result of 2,186 points, our test device has nothing to hide. We were unable to detect any significant drop in performance, such as with the Geekom GT13 Pro.
System performance
Our test sample performed slightly better in the system performance tests than in the pure CPU performance tests. The Intel Core Ultra 5 125H in combination with the installed DDR5 RAM delivers excellent performance in everyday use. We can also subjectively confirm the high performance of the entire system. Our test sample even came out on top in the RAM tests.

NPU performance
The Intel Core Ultra 5 125H contains a Neural Processing Unit, which should significantly reduce the load on the SoC when it comes to AI applications. We evaluate the performance using the UL Procyon AI Interface benchmark program. Compared to its competitors, the Minisforum UH125 Pro delivers slightly better AI performance. The difference in performance compared to the Minisforum AtomMan X7 Ti. We already repeated the benchmark several times in the latter test, but this did not result in any change.

DPC latencies
In our DPC latency measurements, the Minisforum UH125 Pro also only ranks in the midfield. We already document slightly increased latencies when surfing the Internet. The playback of our 4K test video causes the latencies to increase slightly again. However, we did not record any dropped frames, which is excellent.

Mass storage
If the Minisforum UH125 Pro is not purchased as a barebone device, there is a 1 TB SSD in the device. In our case, it is a model from Kingston. In terms of performance, we would have expected a little more from the installed model. Unfortunately, it is only good enough for a place in the lower midfield compared to its competitors. The SSD operates at PCIe 4.0 x4 speed, which is exactly what the M.2 interface can deliver at best. We have already mentioned the large SSD cooler in the maintenance section. This can cool the SSD well under load so that no performance losses are to be expected in longer load scenarios. In addition to the already installed M.2 2280 SSD, another SSD can be installed in the Minisforum UH125 Pro. However, it is important to ensure that the SSD is 30 millimeters long. Both SSDs are covered by the cooler, and the thermal pad already applied is large enough to cover both SSDs.
